Do you take a radio station along with you whenever you or your family might go on a vacation, to the cottage, head out camping, or take an overseas trip...?
[494 votes since 2014-12-02]
YES---I absolutely LOVE the notion & the challenges of operating portable like that.
NO---My XYL & kids would KILL me if I dragged along my radios like that.
YES---One can only lounge at the beach & see the sights for so long: my radio is a comforting thing to fall back on.
NO---When I head out someplace new, my radio stays home, by my own choice. Who needs that distractioin in new environments, anyway?
YES---It gives the perfect opportunity to utilize my so-called "secondary" radio, & to help ensure that it's still functioning.
NO---Far too many questions from non-Hams whenever I might operate in "unknown territory" that only serves to spoil the fun.
Who can afford to travel hither & yon these days?! Besides, my Ham radio is MY passport to anywhere that I might want to go.

    Shack Showcase KG3Z Kenwood station
KG3Z Kenwood station My kenwood Hybrid station: TS-520/DG5/VFO-520 on the left; TS-530s/VFO-120 on the right. Both powering the SP-230 in the center. The scanner is a RS Pro-2006 modified for more channels than I can count. Antenna in use now is a 148' EFWA with a homebrew transformer fed with coax. That aerial required a different tuner as the LDG-100 just couldn't handle it. A 180' dipole is in the works along with a Nye MB-IV. I can't say enough good about the Kenwoods. Recently added an FT-920 for digitals along with a longer desk
