4 Ham Radio Emergency Communications (Katrina) News Stories (10 Sept):

Editor's Note: Due to the sheer volume of news stories relating to Ham Radio's role in emergency communications in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina I am placing all of the (daily) news stories on this topic into a single news story. I will be adding these multiple stories in each day as they come out. This will keep our News section of eHam from being a several pages long in just a few days, while still providing our readers with just as many ham-radio-related news stories on the subject as possible. As always, simply click the "LINK" below the titles to bring up the story in a new browser window.

4 Ham Radio Emergency Communications (Katrina) New
by KG5VK on September 10, 2005 Mail this to a friend!
Here is one of the msgs that I got about ten minutes later on an HF (short wave frequency) while I was stationed with the US Coast Guard in New Orleans
this audio does not have my end of the msg handling because I was in a different place and on a different type of radio than where this was recorded at.

attached is audio (in a zipped file) of just one of the many amateur radio messages that made it to me in New Orleans
I took this msg "several Physicians trapped in the Orleans Parish Prison, they are in need of immediate help" to the Coast Guard Helicopter Dispatch desk

Very seldom to we get to hear that people were actually found
it was great for me to hear this audio.
