This is a fine story.... for the uninformed masses. To anyone that knows the background behind this story, it's got more holes then a fine Swiss cheese.
How many amateur calls have actually been received.... and ignored (oops-"lost")?
How many calls have been received from non-amateur emergency agencies and personnel?
What about BPLs initial promise that it was to be used to connect the rural areas, not just the urban/city customers?
An outside comment from an active HF licensed amateur or the ARRL would have added credibility to their story.
As I said... more holes then Swiss cheese.

The holes in the swiss cheese:
* "no documented basis for further ham radio operator concerns" - note the word "documented"
* "virtually no hitches to date" - there's that fuzzy word again, "virtually"
* "We are not aware of any valid basis for the concerns" - the word "valid" comes to mind. Gee.. I wonder how many complaints they deemed "invalid"?
* "fundamental opposition to BPL rather than any hard facts" - oh yeah, this is my favorite. We all know that the LAWS OF PHYSICS contain few "hard facts".
And finally, I notice they have a WHOLE 900 subscribers. WOW! Let's see, at (what - $25 per sub.?) that should amount to about $22,500 a month in revenue. WHOOP-DE-DOO! Hell they can staff a call center of about 5 customer service reps with that kind of money. If BPL was such a ground-breaking technology, dontcha think they'd have more subscribers than that by now?

Hey - I just noticed - COMTEK Systems is an eham advertiser! Could this be the same company? What irony!

The COMTEK who advertises on eham is a business in Charlotte, NC. It manufactures antenna devices and is not in the BPL business!

I hate to be one of the doomsday types but take a look around the FCC website and see what their goals are. If you look at the goals they have set for the agency for 2006, you will see that we are virtually unmentioned there. However promoting BPL is the number one goal of the agency for 2006. Check out this link and see how much coverage they give to the subject.

At this point, we are at best just a thorn in their side. I wouldn't hold my breath for them to address any interference issues any time soon in regards to BPL interference. I for one am glad we don't have a system in my area. Our only hope is they finally realize that BPL will never be able to compete with other broadband technologies. Unless Uncle Sam decides to subsidize it in some way.

Right. They will be in compliance for as long as it takes the ARRL to check for interference - then they won't be in compliance. Big joke, big lies.
