" 'We don't dispatch police or firefighters, we take on the less critical stuff,' Bates said. 'But if they need 50 cases of diapers at a shelter, we let the right people know. Or, if school buses are taking the uninjured folks away from the scene to a shelter, we can talk to the shelter and help coordinate that effort.' "
This one the the less 'glamorous' roles of Amateur Radio but, it is vital to maintaining a lot of evacuees very existence. Even the biggest, most powerful, naval vessel cannot function without the basics like light bulbs, peanut butter and, even something as mundane as TP.
So, less huffing and puffing and deriding of those who volunteer to help in time of need.

KG4RUL it is not TP sir. It is PTS.
This stands for. PAPER TISSUE SANITARY.
That my friend is what the military calls toilet paper.
I was aware how you like to be correct on here. So was merely trying to be of service.

Bates said most of the volunteers have a simple reason for doing the job: ‘‘We’re Americans. We want the system to run right.”
In amateur radio as in all walks of American life, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. The scoffers are merely on the sidelines making noise.

My favorite example of Civilian vs Military nomenclature is:
Civilian: Wrestling Mat
Military: 1 each Mattress, for sporting purposes only.

lol.. I will take the mattress for sporting purposes anytime.
Then again, I will always be a strong defender of the homeland.
