Art Bell Returns to Broadcast Radio

Art Bell "W6OBB" is returning from retirement to again voice the mike of his popular radio show "Coast to Coast AM". Art, an advanced class licensee, was forced to retire during the spring of 2000 due to some legal issues surrounding his family.

The announcement of his return can be found on his website.

Art is an active radio amateur and is active on 80 meter SSB as well as 2 meter simplex when he travels by Cessna aircraft. His station can often be seen on his webcam transmissions during his show.

This has been a prayer answered for those of us who miss hearing Art on at night. He has been a great source of publicity for Amateur Radio as well as information and entertainment for the insomniac as well as the people who work night shifts, like myself. Here's wishing Art the best of luck in his return and longivity in this endeavor. WELCOME BACK, ART!!!! 73, Ray KV4BL

Looking forward to it - although I'll believe it when I see it. While I may not believe every show, he certainly stimulates thinking. Got a "kick" out of tuning from 540 to 1700 KHz and hearing his voice eight or none times. ART, if your reading this--Please try to get C. Crane to carry the Sony 2010, that why you can truly say they offer the best and most popular shortwave portable ever.

WOW!! Can this be true!!!
Art Bell returns to the AM Broadcast Band??
That's the best news I ever heard. That's fantastic. That's
the second time he has retired, and then return from retirement (I hope)
There's no way any person could produce talk radio of the caliber
of Coast-to-Coast AM with Art Bell without taking an occasional
"retirement".
I certainly hope that he has solved the problems in his personal life
so he can produce the exciting talk radio of the quality for which he
is noted. I can't wait to hear once again his voice on the AM dial. And
I heard it right here on eham.net
WOW!!!!

Has anyone considered the impact on Mike Segal? He gave up a job in the northwest to take over the show and now is just dumped. From what I've seen inside broadcast coverage, he looses big time, since there is a question on if Premire will grant severance pay or help in landing another job.

Premere seems like a tacky outfit and I am sick of there stupid right wing propaganda. Bell is Ok if the bad science don't make you barff. I like his voice. I guess it was just a matter of ratings and loosing outlets. I think they were over 500 affiliates when Bell was in his prime. I read the other day the only have 400 afffiliates for Coast to Coast. My local station dropped an hour. I as many jobs Siegel has had I am sure he knows how to read a contract by now. Wayne Green called in around the first of the year and Mike ripped into him. I was really surprised. Mike was very rude. So much for this OT post. Rather read about some kids 6L6.

I sure missed Art. Great radio personality. Really knows how to tune into his guests so they believe that he believes what they are saying. Who knows if Art is buying into this stuff, but he makes you believe he his. Great show and I can't wait until he comes back on the air.

I listen to an interview with Art Bell on his website this morning. He said under Mike Siegel the program has lost affiliate in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles. He did not say anything about any smaller markets. But it is safe to think there have been losses there also. He said, part of the agreement, upon his coming back, was to have less sponsors/advertisements. I bet Mike S. already took care of that. It seems Mike had more interesting guest than Art. This may be upon the request of management when the shows rating were in decline. Art is fun to watch and to listen too. Some of the bumper music is great. Art picks good music. Must be a left over talent from the disk jockey days.
Welcome back Art.

Yes, I look forward to hearing ancient clips
from Abba's heyday. Stuff you'll never ever
hear anywhere else on the AM dial.

I've listened to Art for quite some time. I really missed him while he's been away. I understand that folks (read that fans) can get quite used to their favorite talk show host. I, for one, am one of them. I work nights and sometimes drive at night due work or pleasure. It is while I work or drive that I listened to Art. Even on camping trips, I would listen to Art, if I could find a station carrying his show. In all honesty, I must admit to being fascinated by some of the topics he's covered. And truth be known, if I can ever work him on 80 meters or any other ham band, if he QSL's I'd show off that QSL card with pride! I understand he's had some terrible legal and personal problems he and his family have had to undergo. I hope that those hardships are now over. I hope to hear Art again and very soon. I wish him and his family well. I also wish his return to radio to be a good thing for us all, for him and us, his fans. Welcome back Art!

73!

Oh, goody! Art's back with his "granola radio show." You know, fruits, nuts, and flakes!

Guess he finally crawled out of his Y2K bunker and realized we're all still alive.

It was great to here that Art Bell was returning to Coast TO Coast. I sure did miss his voice on the way home from work. A couple of months ago I worked Art on the 10 meter band and this made my day. Thanks John
