eHam Hiccup

eHam experienced an unfortunate event that resulted in our "going back in time" approximately 3 days.

Earlier in the week, we upgraded part of our database software which had the undetected side-effect of breaking our automatic backups. Then today, we had need for those backups and only had a 3-day old copy to which we could restore. Essentially, the entire site looks exactly as it did 3 days ago. So, anyone who registered as a new user, changed his/her profile, posted to an article or forum, etc., needs to do so over again.

Fortunately we keep a separate listing for anyone who supports us financially, so I should be able to restore recent subscribers to full "Subscriber" status later today.

We are quite sorry for the trouble.

I've actually tried 3 times to upload an article and the website returns the error "No category selected", when it clearly has been.

The bugs continue...

A here I was getting all mad thinking the "Eham Police" were out deleting posts once again! I thought; "What in the heck did I do????"

Thanks for letting us know. I was noticing severe problems getting into certain pages three days ago. Thought you guys might be in the path of the ice storm and figured that was the problem.

Didn't know it was a hiccup....

You all have a damn good track record for keeping the site up and running. An occasional wrinkle in the fabric is certainly acceptable.

Merry Christmas

Don't you just love "transparent" upgrades.

I used to maintain an "electronic newsroom" computer network for a TV Station. The software vendor threatened to pull support if I didn't install software updates the same day I received them. So, on the next update I installed it immediately and the entire system came to a screeching halt. I called support and was told "Didn't you get the letter telling you not to install that update?" Needless to say I went back to waiting at least two weeks before installing updates.

I hope you're "having fun" and keep up the good work. We all appreciate it.

With apologies to Clinton, who within the last 2 days had uploaded hours worth of edited articles...

OUCH. At least it was 3 days, not 3 months...

In time this will heal. It does serve to distribute a well earned lesson:

How good are your backup routines? Do you test or review them?

Oh well, i dont think i could remember what i posted anyway...not like it was all that important really. ;-)

Good luck with the computer issues, I have 4 of them, one is a Mac G4 for my studio. When that one crashes, i revert to infant stage...drooling and mumbling gibberish to myself!

Kind of like many of our posts. No worries.

I love going back in time even 3 weeks as it gives me a chance to visit family and friends all over again. But software and other radio related problems always seem to give us hic ups

This is funny. I spent days looking for my recent post on sunspots. Thanks for letting us know.

Eham remains one of the best, if not the best internet resourse available to a ham radio operator. Thanks for the fantastic site.
