Hi All,
Plain and simple, Howard Stern is an Ignorant Putz!
He is nothing more than a foul mouthed no talent loudmouth that thrives on bad mouthing anything he does not understand.
I do not listen to him I will not listen to him and will never acknowledge his legitamacy as an entertainer.
He should not be allowed on the air waves.
Nuff Said.

Howard Stern is nothing but human debris. He has hair like a circus clown and a brain to match. If you did not read the article, Stern called ham operators a bunch of "serial killers". He exploits & mocks women and mentally challenged people on his program. He made his place in society as a freshly laid turd, as he will be remembered. SICKO..

Just remember, Howard is nothing more than an an old "SHOCK-JOCK"
He does nothing without attempting to create a lasting image and up his ratings. I would bet he doesn't even know what Ham Radio is.
Totally tallentless and disgusting but he has LOTS of loyal followers, It sort of shows you what many of the folks are in this country these days.
Rather scarey isn't it??

Is it really news that Howard Stern is a piece of $hit? I've known this for YEARS! lol
The reaction is what he's looking for. The world needs to start ignoring Howard Stern. It's a real shame that people find him entertaining.

I heard Howard (filthy mouth) Stern one time on the radio and was apalled at what I was hearing on the airwaves. I turned it off and vowed to never give this loser the chance to speak into my ears ever again. Howard Stern exemplifies all that is evil in this world. The Bible says to pray for our enemys so Mr. Stern you are in my prayers --- but it ain't gonna' be easy!

Stern is such a hypocrite. He wants everybody else, but him, held to acceptable standards. OK, Don Imus might be a bigot, but what about Stern? He makes a living off stereotyping people, as is evident by his comment about ham radio operators. Stern has no room to complain about other people.
I really don't understand why Imus got fired in the first place. Everybody was complaining about him calling those ladies "nappy-headed hos", but I never heard anybody (including the basketball team) complain about him calling them "jigaboos". So what we have here is Don Imus getting fired for nothing, while Howard Stern (wasted sperm) continues to make his living doing far, far worse.
I say to let him label ham radio operators as serial killers if he wants to. Apparentely nobody pays much attention to him anyways, except for his loyal listeners that are probably no better than him as human beings. Stern is just making his rounds (as usual), and will eventually offend every clique in the world. I'm actually surprise nobody has shot him yet. lol

HaH! That's pretty funny! Serial killers or crotchy, out-of-shape white men? I'll take serial killers.

Ironic, don't you think, of air wave polluter Stern taking a swipe at ham radio?
I am glad that he does not have a ham license. If he did, he would give reasons for the gloom and doom hams to wail about the end of amateur radio.

Hahahaha.... Howard Stern, Rush Limbaugh, Don Imus, et-al.
They're all a bunch of radio buffoons who make a good living lighting fires and getting the simpler folk all wound up. The human circus is so predictable. Relax folks, talk radio, like ham radio has a dial you can spin if you don't like what you hear.

OK, is Howard Stern testing the waters again, let me see, he got banned from terrestrial radio, he got fired from a real D.C. radio station for saying something he wasn't supposed to on air, and has been bashing the FCC, who license us, for years...I figure some ham driving through Manhattan cut his limo off recently, and he's been mad ever since at ham radio operators...makes sense to me...as far as the serial killer comment, it's funny how we have the knowledge to actually use voltage and wattage to our advantage, but think about how mad he is that he can't use that wattage and electricity for ground based blather any more...this is the real issue with him, and he takes it out on us lowly hams -the audasity... He needs to
understand something about our hobby, and that its' made up of 99.955% law abiding citizens, contrary to his pronouncement....Only if there was a backbone in the FCC tribunal nowadays, he would be serving time,
and maybe turn into what he hoped to be...I'll leave that up to your imagination....

KC2OJO pulled somebodies string!
"On April 27, 2006, the first annual Howard Stern Film Festival debuted at The Hudson Theatre in New York City. The film festival took entries from fans and featured a grand prize of $35,000 in cash and prizes. Stern said of the festival "People want access. The Tribeca Film Festival is too commercial. This is the one where the next great comedy directors will be discovered. This is good for New York, and it's good for the listeners. They get to come down here, participate, make creative films, and all the films are about me. What better topic is there?"
The winner of the festival was Scott Masterson whose film "Radio Play" was a sentimental tribute to Stern that wondered what it would be like if Stern, Quivers, and Norris met over amateur radio as children.[37]" ---Wikipedia

KG4RRN: Stern did not get "banned" from earth bound radio, he took a job, at something like 3 times his salary, on sattelite.
I listen to him, don't always agree with him, but, he is entertaining.
As far as slamming us hams, when is the last time you were at Dayton? Sadly, we do indeed have a collection of greenteethed, badbreathed, fat, sloppy, smelly folks in the hobby. It's fact. Notice I didn't say all, or even most. But we have a bunch. Guys with towers stuck in a hardhat ( goofy ), guys that forgot to apply deodorant, and guys who spent money on a new handheld, instead of toothpaste.
We are what we are.

Whether he likes ham radio or not, Stern epitomizes one Supreme Court Judge's comment; "... has NO socially redeeming value".
Come to think about it, I'd rather have him against us than for us as he seems to be nothing but human filth.

I may have stumbled across Stern's linkage between ham radio and serial killers... just skim-read Amazon.com's summary of the DVD movie "Frequency" which has a ham-radio element to the plot, and there's the serial-killer reference. Haven't seen it tho.
I don't know which repulses me more: Stern, or folks that like him. Both are scary...

I saw the episode that everybody is commenting about. I usually dont watch Letterman but I was channel surfing and caught the comments. How come nobody is complaining about Letterman...he criticized us and then made an example of hams...he bent over to his desk mic pretended to have headphones on and called New Zealand...and then called hams a few names.....Regarding Howard (Give him a haircut) Stern...I dont understand how a talentless smuck like him can get a 5 year 500 million contract to be on satellite radio....his program and side kicks sound like 9th graders on a school bus complaining on their way to school.I pity the public that listens to this creep stringbean and pays for the privaledge.

I like Dave but using ham radio as subject matter on for his show can mean one thing: he's writers need to get the lead out and stick with material they are knowledgeable about.
Howard is Howard......he'll crap on anyone to make himself look good.
What's the best tool to moderate Howard's condition? Use your mute button.

It would be so cool if Letterman became a ham and promoted ham radio.
I think it's great that Howard Stern said that hams are likely to be serial killers. That means Howard Stern and all his fans will stay far, far away from us, and we won't have to deal with them.

They have eyes, but they do not see...
Why is Howard popular? Because of YOU! Yep, you.
Like him or hate him, people talk about him. Word spreads and [some] people tune in to see what he'll say next - hence increased popularity, and he's betting on it! Why? Tuned-in people equal cash-flow. Obviously he needs to keep this speak going or people would stop tuning in (loss of cash-flow).
Keeping talking him up(or down) folks. You're filling his pockets with gold. I have to admit, he has one heck of a wild scam going with the public.
Howard is a multi-millionaire. Most of us aren't.
Time to wise up folks.

I really don't think that Howard Sterns' comment was that big of a deal. It did give me a chuckle, Only because I personally have met some very strange Hams. It is only one persons opinion and not fact. The problem in this country is that too many people hype up the small stuff and make it a huge deal. It ends up making people rich and famous. Remember most of the people that listen to Howard Stern hate him. I admit, I listen to Howard Stern when I can because he makes me laugh. Does he go over the top sometimes? Most definitely. He does have my respect though. I just happened to be listening to him on September 11, 2001 when he was reporting what was going on with the World Trade Center, He showed much professionalism and he comforted people even when all the craziness was happening. A good saying to live by is "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff"
Thanks for listening,

Got to love old Howie. Always looking to raise a few eyebrows, and now he's done it to the Ham Radio Population. Too bad he made the mistake of abandoning his audience to go to a satellite network you have to pay for, thus seeing a considerable drop in the number of this listeners. NOT!.......;-D.....Again, reaffirming the notion that radio should be FREE!!!! Paid for by advertisers only.
By the by, I did not know Letterman was "fascinated" with ham radio. Anyone know when this came about and if he has a license???

Letterman utterly rejected Stern's suggestion that he was a ham, or was even interested in ham radio. Dave protested that he wasn't a ham; he's a NORMAL person instead because he's only an SWL. They agreed that hams are strange, and didn't want to be identified with them. You can't really pin the anti-ham sentiment on Stern. Dave was at least as anti-ham as Howard was.
For hams with an open mind, Stern's appearance provided an interesting and valuable insight into how the public perceives ham radio operators. I never tell anyone I'm a ham unless I am forced to for some reason.

Stern lost his relevance after he sold out to the Hollywood glam scene he so despised on the air for years. Now he's just another rich and famous eccentric old coot with a young trophy girlfriend, not the cutting edge and innovative broadcaster he once was. While I think Limbaugh and Imus are both jerks, at least they stayed true to themselves throughout their careers.

I wouldn't read too much into Letterman's comments. He was probably playing against Stern's comments.
Several years ago -- this may have been while Letterman was still at NBC -- I recall seeing a show where they had a girl on who was one of the youngest YL's licensed (possibly as an Extra?); she was a real cutie, around 10 - 11. She demonstrated use of a rig (I'm pretty sure a 2M rig) on the show, and Dave operated for a few moments and chatted with someone.
At the end of the segment, the radio was donated to the little girl.
Maybe he's changed over the years. Maybe not. Maybe he was just reacting to a certain CW vs. Texting demo on the competition a couple of years back! But baring further evidence one way or the other, I wouldn't read too much into it.

While I agree with most of the swipes at Stern and others..
I was on 20 meters this afternoon and heard two old guys, both Extras trading affections, one referring to the other as a son of a female dog, while the other added similar greetings.
My young son walked into the room as I landed on a QSO where another Extra related what it was like buying favors from the locals ladies in Taiwan and the resultant diseases, while a sailor in the US Navy.
The first set of exchange of words would have gotten Stern thrown off of the air. The second was to say the least, rude.
OK, so these were not typical QSOs, but these were not CBers, they were Extra class licenses. So, why are we complaining about Stern again?

According to the FCC KC2OJO went from no-license to Tech to General to Extra in one day on June 16, 2005.
Between "Restructuring" and dropping morse code requirements we all knew the riff-raff would come rolling into the hobby. Now add W5YI and a dash of corruption and viola ! We have a snake within our ranks.
Thank you FCC.

Good point. Just went to a hamfest in Fort Worth this weekend & saw many that would fit that description. Probably wouldn't impress your new girlfriend if she wanted to go "see what your ham radio hobby is all about."
Helpful hint: if you go to a hamfest or other group event that involves many people in close proximity in very small rooms, be glad you used Dial. Don't you wish everyone did.
And I don't mean a radio dial.

Yes, because God knows anyone who goes from no license to Extra in one day must be pond scum </cynicism> (as if no one had ever done that when the code test was in place).

I'll admit right up front that Limbaugh is an excellent broadcaster...purely excellent. As human being he's a manipulative jerk. He's created a breed of conservatives that can't form an independent thought...essentially an army of sheep that think everything from taxes to hair clogs are caused by liberals. His lackeys don't even know what the meaning of the word liberal is. You can find them here. As soon as they run out of things to say, they'll call you a liberal, even if it's an argument over whether LSB or USB is better. Stern was an excellent broadcaster. He got caught up in the limelight and forgot what broadcasting and true sincerity was all about. I can't say much about Imus other than they should have never put that made-for-radio face on TV, but at least he does good stuff for kids.

Doesn't anybody realize that Howard Stern has had problems with the FCC, of the same magnitude as we hams have in relation to BPL?! We have this problem with a government agency in common! We should hold an olive branch to Howard, and try to get him to be our spokesperson, against this #&%$?)^ agency. But if he won't be nice, then I hope his satellite falls out of orbit.

Howard Stern, Rush Limbaugh, Don Imus and their likes all pander to the lowest common denominator, those that need to be told what to think and do. And there's no shortage of them. The common thread that binds them is bombast. If you tell people what they want to here, and in a bombastic manner you will collect all kinds of mindless followers. Liberals, Republicans, and everything in between, it doesn't matter.
