It's a slow news day here in Missouri too. As the news director of a broadcast radio station and a ham radio operator, I appreciate eham.net for passing along this particular story idea. It serves two purposes: fills up 25 seconds in a newscast and promotes amateur radio at the same time.

I was a bit concerned. "Flash Signs" has a very bad connotation. I thought it mean ham radio gang members were flashing signs, but I wasn't too sure about the plates part of it. Maybe paper plates? I hoped we hams had not turned into gangs.

Well, come to think of it, a 20WPM code test is a lot like the initiation ritual these gangs have :-)
