Wow. A National Emergency Preparedness Excercise. I thought Field Day was just a contest.

Ron, If you'd care to look at the description of field day on the ARRL website, you would see it is more than just a contest. Although some people think that way, there are others who don't care for the contest aspect of that weekend, and do it just as a set-up exercise--just to see that they can put a functional station together, put up temporary antennas, and run the whole thing off power sources other than plugging into a wall outlet.

If all you think of field day is that it is another contest, you're missing the major point of it. Sure, you can do with it what you want, but it is in fact an emergency setup exercise, a contest, a day to show off what can be done with ham radio, and a family/group get-together day all rolled into one.
