ARRL Sets up E-mail Addresses for Use During Hurricanes, Tropical Storms:

In an effort to streamline hurricane support operations at ARRL Headquarters, the League has set up two e-mail addresses for hams to pose questions or relay information to HQ Staff relating to hurricane or named tropical storm events. If you need to communicate with ARRL HQ regarding these storms, please use hurricane@arrl.org; or hurricane@arrl.net;. These e-mail addresses will be monitored during each storm's descent on the US, as well as throughout the hurricane season.

ARRL Sets up E-mail Addresses for Use During Hurri
by K4RAF on September 10, 2008 Mail this to a friend!
Ahhh, the line between the internet & amateur radio EMCOMM blurs even further.

"When ALL Else Fails", how will the VoIP Nodes stay up for the Hurricane Center?

"When ALL Else Fails", how will the email get to the destination address?

"When ALL Else Fails", how will the ARRL seek to change the Part 97 rules to reflect deploying things like a mesh or other local wireless network topology?

Look up how to form a mesh or "breadcrumb network"

This is just the ARRL admitting that while most State EOCs utilize wireless/broadband fiber connectivity, ARRL EMCOMM is soo desperate to stay in the game, they are quietly aligning themselves with real world communications reality. However, most don't notice because all the while they are screaming that amateur message handling/traffic exists in a totally separate & parallel universe! BULL!!!

1972lbs of HF/VHF/UHF equipment to handle a message that can be handled with under 1.25 lbs of 12VDC 802.11a/g/r equipment & handheld PDA or laptop? That's a "parallel"?

Too funny...
