"This was a good solid man in the community. Even though he was 93 he was still active in the Kathleen Historical Society," Judd said. "He was a ham radio operator, he knew Morse code and he was one the community could always depend on to help out in any event."

Wow! When I read this story, the first thing I thought of after reading the part where the son and his wife had been living with this victim (his father) to take care of him, was that he might have done the evil deed. I did not notice the follow up article until I read the responses and saw the hint on how to find it. Looks like the son got tired of caring for his father and maybe he wanted to take his inheritance early.

A son "staging" his crime of patricide to look like a home invasion is beyond unconscionable. It is plain sick.
Sadly, the first thing I thought of when I read the initial article was how long it would take the police to drill the son or daughter in law into a confession.
Not long, apparently.

Walter Farley K4QE was a member of our local radio club the Lakeland Amateur Radio Club. We are all shocked and stunned by his death and even more so by how he met his demise.
He was a superb CW operator and active member of the club. He will be sorely missed.

Was this the Walter Farley who wrote all the "Black Stallion" books?
Bummer on his death - especially since he was still active and doing at 93.... my hero.
