George, very FB to see a picture of Ken, K5KA, station boss of the famous Buffalo scat ranch where many a NAQP Multi-ops have taken place. I understand his swimming pool will be drained and the concrete base used for the new Luso crank-up. Way cool.
Glad to have seen Ken, the SS manager at Dayton 2009.

One thing I did notice this year was that the crowd at Dayton seemed to be in better physical condition than in the past.
My wife came with me one year, back in the 80's, and remarked that she had never before seen so many big arses, big guts and neurotic faces crammed together in one place in her entire life. It has long been an ongoing joke about the body size and lack of hygiene amongst the attendees.
This year I saw less of that. Not so many morbidly obese people; only one or two had food stains all over the front of their shirt, and I don't remember encountering anyone who smelt particularly bad, even while everyone was huddled together inside during rainy periods on Saturday.
And fewer of those notorious Daytonmobiles - you know, the electric scooters with aggressive drivers who plough their way through the crowd, running over other peoples' feet and colliding with their ankles, with scornful expressions on their face because you didn't get out of their way fast enough.

This was my sixth trip to Hamvention and really enjoyed see my friends. As a collector of vintage gear, I think this year was a little on the lean side as far as the flea market goes. I did find a 10 x 10 foot section of paving outside that did not resemble the surface of the moon. The Hara Arena continues to crumble into dust, and I wonder why their insurance carrier puts up with such a potentially costly law suit with everything in such a state of dis-repair. The goofy hats are still there and the "slob-a-fication" of the American male continues. Congrats to the DARA group for a good job. Hey, it's the Dayton Hamvention and I would not trade it for anything! See 'ya next year!!
