Geocaching -- Modern Day Treasure Hunting

Ever dream of finding hidden treasures? Do you own a GPS? If you answered YES to both questions, you'll love geocaching! Fair warning: This game can get addictive - but what the heck - it's good exercise and it's fun for the whole family.

Thanks to Dennis Recla (WA5KTC), the latest HamBrief.tv features a geocaching treasure hunt. After watching the video, signup for 73s.org and join the Geocaching group!

I clicked on all the links, watched all the videos and still must ask - what is Geocaching?

someone hides a box of stuff (a "cache") and posts the GPS coordinates on a website (http://www.geocaching.com/)... maybe with a few hints.

Other people go try to find it.

The GPS is good to a few yards and it may not be out in the open, so it can be tricky. Can be fun, some folks have found hundreds (you can tell by their info on the website) I got bored after a coupla dozen.

Have we run out of radio subjects to write about?

Great hobby!

However, since it requires some agility, coordination and stiring about, it would be of little interest to most hams. As see noted above.

And, as usual, Wireless, displays his dissatisfaction with life.

I see a connection with Geocaching and Ham radio. Ham radio and Geocaching use GPS and it’s similar to T hunting. GPS is what ties it together
