'When All Else Fails We Have Ham Radio':
by HFRF on June 30, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
Is this nonsense delusional thinking ever going to end? Ham radio isn't going to save anybody from anything. Ham radio is an old dysfunctional hobby that doesn't work. If it did, you wouldn't see all of those on eham or qrz instead of 80 meters. Hams are even too lazy to build or experiment. They sit in their chairs getting even fatter using modeling software instead of building and testing stuff. Hams can't get along with themselves but they are going to save the world? Pathetic joke!!!!!!!!!

Somebody turn off the broken record.

HAM radio as a public service
by K0EX on June 30, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
At last -- a journalist who writes like he/she is competent on the subject matter!

This article could have been written about my QTH, Colorado Springs. We have an excellent network of weather spotters on 144MHz who work DIRECTLY with the National Weather Service to provide timely information during summer-time storms. Up to several times a week in the warm months, this area experiences thunderstorms which can produce inches of rain within a hour and hail much larger than golf balls. HAMs' on-the-spot reporting of this activity to the NWS helps the NWS update its forecasting AND provide more detailed info in its bulletins/broadcasts to the general public.

During the "Hayman Fire" of 2002, which burned 138,000 acres and caused over 5000 evacuations, HAMs provided constant communication among official emergency agencies battling the fire and it's consequences. Men and women, very skilled in Emergency Communication (eg, ARES), saved lives with their efforts.

Thanks to all those HAMs, across this nation and the world, who devote their time to Emergency communications!!

So... If HFRf really thinks this way towards ham radio, why are you even responding to this web site. why waste your valuable time. Go spout your crap on some other site where there are more people like you. this is a hobby for all ages and abilities and for fun. I am tired of seeing your kind of people on this site spouting off about nothing they know about. and really.... get a real call sign for a user name. hfrf is a really silly and childish. Real hams have real call signs.

Do you think a Mattel technician class is real?

Hmmmm... Lets see, from looking at your bio.. looks like i am the one who has a license, a real one, yes a tech but i am upgrading in august. I enjoy this hobbie and am not ashamed of my tech license. I worked hard and it was an accomplishment for me. So if you want to tear that down too go ahead. Like i said, looks like i am the one who has a real license here.

So you are going for your Mattel general license?

RE: 'When All Else Fails We Have Ham Radio':

There are three classes of FCC Amateur Radio Service license, plus the older grandfathered classes. Any one of those classes is just as 'REAL' as the others.

HFRF do you have a call sign? If so why dont you use it on here?

RE: 'When All Else Fails We Have Ham Radio':
by HFRF on June 30, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
The "older grandfathered licenses" (who said they were grandfathered?) are the real licenses. The "new and totally unimproved licenses" are by Mattel. A toy is a toy by any other name.

Eham is an internet site. You don't need to identify by call letters. You clowns who try their lame attempts to force people to do what they want are just stupid. I decide what I do , not you. You are irrelevant and what you want is meaningless. Sometimes I can't figure out why I skim the garbage on this site.

Like I first stated.. go find some other place to spout your crap. This is not the website for this stuff.
I also reiterate my last comment about me at least having a real fCC license, that i am not ashamed of owning.
All you do is babble some nonsense.
I really pity Trolls like you that have no other thing to do in life than talk down other people. Guys I am done feeding the troll.

The FCC said they are grandfathered. They are no longer issued. All license issued by the FCC are the 'real license'. They are the government entity charged with that responsibility.

Isn't 'HFRF' Mattel's top selling license?

HFRF did you say YOU were irrevelant??????????
If you dont like what is posted or the replies, then GO AWAY! We dont need your useless, meaningless, driven on here. Go back to 11 meters and leave us alone!!!!! Talk about a troll...........

If I'm irrelevant and useless why are so many of the eham clowns getting so worked up. eHamers are soooooooooooo predictable. You also believe your own propaganda. After years of hearing about all the important emergency communication that was facilitated by ham radio, never has anyone gave a word for word or even paraphrased example of the "IMPORTANT" communication provided. Thats because there never was anything of value communicated except for donut availability alerts to all the fat hams looking for another donut to stuff in their faces.

Ham radio would become fun again if they would just:

Stop pretending to be important. Ham are not. Just give it a rest. Nobody else in this world pretends they can save the world like hams. Nobody believes you except you.

Stop being so fragile that every disagreeing person you run across makes you fight and argue to the death.

Stop with all the procedures, gentleman's rules, corny and totally laughable old jargon. The government has enough laws for us.

Stop avoiding the shower. You know who you are.

Stop fighting with yourselves on the ham bands, internet and every where else. How can you sell yourselves as some kind of fraternity when all you do is fight, dumping carriers on everybody, think every freq you are on is yours, every ham site is yours too. Hams as a group are the worst squatters I have ever seen.

Now go back to whatever destructive behavior you were doing because you aren't going to change anything. Misery loves company.

hfrf,
Looking at your last post i have to agree with a couple of your points. But you have set yourself up and showed the world that you are no different than the people you are putting down for the in fighting.
Try looking in the mirror once and a while because you are what you are spewing and accusing others of.
I do agree about the in fighting and you are contributing to this kind of discourse. I come here to learn something and learn more about this hobby not so spar with someone who has no other thing in life but to talk down to people and doesn't offer anything constructive to the discussion.
I am not trying to start any fights over this.
I am just tired of people like you that have absolutely no manners or common sense to keep their mouths shut if they don't have anything to contribute constructively to the discussion at hand. You need to remember that there are kids who use and read in these forums too and think about the kind of example you are setting when you do this kind of stuff on this site.

QRMer's live/exsist to have people pay attention to them, acknowledge them. That is why the rule of thumb is to Ignore them as the first replyer did.KC7FTL did do a noble thing by defending Ham Radio but alas,he gave the QRMer pleasure and 'justification' by acknowledging and responding to his 'transmission'.This is our forum just as it's our RF spectrum. If we continue to play the QRMer's game he will always return to feed on our dipleasure of his foolish drivel.Enough of this,I'm gonna fire up my HF rig and Play...73 Laner

It is a broken record of what was once a true status.

If these "All Else Fails" people bothered to look around them, they'd quickly discover we are NO LONGER Unique!!

As I have experienced, no one wants to experiment above 450MHz. Fat, dumb & happy with the status quo of 25 years ago. All ham radio can say is "NO"...

The Hobby of No...

IMHO ham radio is headed to the proverbial dumpster. No one really cares about ham radio anymore. Most of the old timers are dying off and there are not enough younger people to fill in the void. A lot of people that i know dont even know what ham radio is. They think it is CB radio. Also the stereotype of the average ham being fat, smelly, geeky and old is also killing the hobby. I once took a friend of mine to a hamswap a few years ago because he showed some interest. After he saw how motley most hams were and how archaic most ham gear was he said "He&& no, im not interested in becoming a ham. What a bunch of geeks!" So the idea of getting my buddy on the air and licensed was killed off. He still makes fun of me and my ham hobby asking me how many fat geeky dorks i have talked to this week.

Well, yeah hes a friend. I have known him for years. Just because he doesnt like ham radio doesnt mean i will stop being friends with him. We hams have to take into consideration that not everyone likes or understands our hobby. Ham radio is not for eveyone and it is NOT the be all end all of hobbies. There are even family members of mine that poke fun at me for being a ham. Will i stop respecting them or loving them? NO ABSOLUTELY NOT!! Ham radio is a hobby to me NOT an obession. I -DONT CARE- who does or doesnt like ham radio.

HFRF lives in fear he or she hides their true identity. What do you fear HFRF? You know folks people like HFRF have some type of underlying problem to behave in such manner. If I were this person I would try to think of some other way to manage my problem, or look for a new hobby. Tell us HFRF what is your real motive? What drives you to act in such manner? We are all ears.

I have a few comments first of all on the discussion second of all on the usefulness of ham.
1. Why judge the entertainment of others if you really want to be judgemental write a letter to the government about something that really has an impact on the lives of others. Like the lack of healthcare in the richest country in the word.
2. I got into ham and I am glad hams are listening as I find myself often out of cell phone reach and worried if I got in trouble how to reach someone. CB is not powerfull enough to make any distance.

So thanks to all the folks that have Ham radio as a hobby I feel a bit more secure.

Dear Japie, etal,

Frankly, I wouldn't put my "John Henry" on a letter to Uncle Sam. Letters to the government are even more hazardous than ham radio. Only half kidding. Maybe I did when I was in high school, but to the best of my recollection I didn't (inside joke from the Watergate era).

One of the really big problems hams are having right now is the non-appearance of Solar Cycle 24. This means that high frequency DX cannot happen without high power and beam antennas. This is why CB radio doesn't work DX anymore.

It's almost like the Cosmos or God or something else doesn't like ham radio either. 73, John

P.S. There's always ham satellites and 160 meters.

Anybody who ever goes hiking in a remote area with a simple HT and a buddy with a cell phone knows which one will work in an emergency. I can hit several repeaters from anywhere -- even the most remote canyons -- and my buddy usually gets no service. In an emergency, I'd rather have my HT.
