RadioShack Rebranding Itself as The Shack:

In early August, a RadioShack Corporation news release touted its new branding: THE SHACK. The stated purpose: THE SHACK is friendlier-sounding and less "corporate" than RadioShack http://ir.radioshackcorporation.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=400656.

"THE SHACK is friendlier-sounding and less "corporate" than RadioShack "

Well now, I wonder what wet-nosed, brand-new-college-Graduate thought this one up????

"RadioShack" sounds "Corporate"???????

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

I don't really think so!!

Good luck with the NEW name folks but for us Hams I think it is just about TEN YEARS too late! And I sure DON'T need Another Cell Phone!

yeah, just like circuit city was too corporate and they changed it to "the city". they actually stated it sounded more "hip, and cool." I already knew they were going bankrupt when they thought "firedog" was an answer to Best Buy's "geek squad". I figured Radio Smack was next, and now I *know* it's days are numbered...

I've got a new corporate slogan for them:

"The Shack: Stupid people selling cheap, useless crap to other stupid people."

My last trip into a Radio Schlock was about five years ago and went something like this:

PIMPLY FACED SALES KID: Welcome to Radio Shack! Need help finding anything?

ME: No, thanks I know what I'm looking for.

PFSK: Need a cell phone?

ME: No thanks. I have 2 already.

PFSK: Are you sure I can't help you find something?

ME (now having found what I wanted): No, I got it.

PFSK: We've got some great deals on cell phones now. Sure you don't need one?

ME (now visibly irritated): I don't need another damn cell phone!

PFSK: Can I help you find anything else?

ME: No I really don't think you can.

PFSK: I know this store pretty good....

ME: Son, how old are you?

PFSK (proudly) Just turned 20!

ME: I was prowling Radio Shacks when you were trying not to leave stains on your parent's carpeting from your diaper.

PFSK (somewhat defiantly) Well, I'm studying to be an electrical engineer!

ME: OK, maybe you can help me then. Do you have any more double female PXN connectors? I didn't see any on the shelf.

PFSK (proudly having beaten down the "dumb old man") I'll go in the back and check for you sir.

As he marched triumphantly toward the stockroom, I laughed all the way out to the car. I'll bet he's still looking for those connectors.

Hmmm... at least in the town where I currently live the owners/employees are hams and they do know their stuff. They are good people.

To me, "THE SHACK" invokes mental images that are less than spectacular, and that's putting it lightly. IMO RadioShack should leave well enough alone.
