Another day, another violation. I am sure this is if it is the US not Canada (hard to tell), "routine" fire department communications and the like around their island and no waiver.
Somebody is going to stay busy reading news releases and writing violation warnings. Not I, but this does appear to be a rather tight net.

Thanks, Bill. That tells me that this could be interesting to watch with the FCC comments on regular drills being afoul of the reg's as well as the prohibitions about communications on behalf of employers.
This may be an interesting rest of the year.

I don't think the FCC is concerned about the responsible use of ham radio. They will give them all the waivers they want if they ask, but if they have a licensed ham available to operate the radios during the drills, the waiver is not necessary.
The more hams grouse the more rule changes, rulings and waivers we will see. I think it is great!

I am afraid that the FCC idea of responsible use is far different than that of much of the Ham community. It take way more than a licensed Ham now! The Ham must not be employed by the entity for which he is passing the message or he is in trouble without the waiver (only available by local government request). There must be no appearance of pecuniary interest, and finally from a remark made later, the drills must not happen more than once or maybe twice in a year.
I believe this is just a little more restrictive than many Ham's idea of responsible and reasonable. Such is the regulatory climate.

KF7CG is another ham 3 years behind the 2006 FCC ruling on paid public safety personnel, who have ham licenses, using the radios for emergencies. The waivers are only for drills, but a rule change will finally take care of that and waivers will no longer be necessary. Meanwhile, the FCC is shooting out waivers fast to any agency that asks.
The more these uninformed hams grouse, the more rule changes rulings and waivers we will see, which I think is great! The grousers have no say and are not in charge of the airways. The FCC is! Too bad for them, but great for the community.

SDY,
I did not overlook the 2006 ruling, it simply restated the fact that in a genuine emergency their was no need for a rule change. Again it has rather interesting ambiguities "immediate threat" to life and property. Where does a threat (and what is considered a threat)become immediate has been left to the bureacracy to decide. This again could be interesting.
The FCC has already opined that regular weekly and monthly practice nets run afoul of the regulations even when they meet the pecuniary interest and employee restrictions.
This will have to wait for the first citations, if any for a resolution.

Another example of an old ham pettyfogging the facts. Fortunately, you are a voice of the past, not the leadership of the future!
You have no say in the matter. The FCC makes and enforces the rules and they want ham radio used in disasters and in practice drills for emergencies. Their will be no violation citations. Just waivers, lots of them, shooting out of the FCC office like water out of a hose!

Fortunately I am none of what describe. Not leadership of the future (thank whomever!), nor one of the old guard.
Try Extra Medium, long license tenure, never a General, but not a 20 WPM EXTRA. No the commission very well all tests but one done before commission and that one the old question pool. Cncer surgery stopped the 20 WPM test try until after restructure but valid written certificate did the trick.
Just don't fit the mold and very glad of it.
