Announcing Railroad Depots on the Air:

Most of us have heard of Islands on the Air and the Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society. These organizations promote the activation and operation of Islands and Lighthouses, respectively. It is in that spirit of activity that Railroad Depots on the Air, RRDOTA, was formed.

Railroad depots were once the focus of a community. Our organization seeks to recognize the former importance of these structures, as well as provide interesting operating events. Many people live within short distance of a current or past railroad depot, so there are many opportunities for community events, public setups, or just setting in the parking lot with a mobile rig.

For more information, please visit http://w0jrm.homelinux.net/rrd ota/index.php. If you'd like to keep informed of upcoming activations and operating events, we have an email list. You can find a link to it on the right-side menu of our webpage.

How about forming a club at the Sacramento Railroad Museum in Sacramento, California. They already have a telegraph office and the 20th Century Limited had radio-telephones to make phone calls from your room on the train to home or wherever. W6IEZ Sacramento California.

Or maybe a club in Cheyenne for the Round house and the Challenger that Union Pacific maintains there. Is there a better sound ( other than a radio ) than that of a "chuffer"?

There are four old depots within ten miles of me. However, three of them have been converted to private homes and one is a restaurant with a very small parking lot.
