What do they know?

Regardless of whether ham antennas or non-ham antennas, just what qualifies these and similar "councils" to determine what is suitable for antennas and what is not?

Unless they have qualified technical consultants as advisors, they can do more harm than good.

Aesthetics is not the sole criterion for determining antenna suitability, neither is the presumed need to raise revenue or employ inspectors, or create illusions of care for the community.

So much of this stuff is simply hog wash that the legitimate concerns are often lost in the shuffle.

Just the usual "government knows best" attitude, Ray. Just like the statement you must sign under threat of prosecution when you renew your amateur radio license. That you have read and comply with the RF radiation requirements promulgated by the license issuer: the FCC.

Why its none other than beautiful, picturesque Dixon,CA, located in the flatlands in the middle of nowhere. A spot where the cows graze on alkali weeds in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Valley. You see, Ray, these council folk don't like the specter of the existing old VOA Sterba Curtain arrays and supporting towers (that guess WHO constructed). So now they want an otherwise pristine horizon, with nothing more than an occasional wood utility pole to be spoiling their view of the cow pasture. I've got news for them. Their ordinance (unless its stuffed with ordnance) won't keep the federal government from building whatever kind of antennas it wants to.

In fact, the local ham club should fire up the VOA arrays once in a while. Matching the open wire transmission lines would pose a bit of a problem, though. A great place for Field Day.
