If you or another ham you know lives near Newark, NJ this group still needs Ham Radio operators for this event. The main operating band will be 70cm with other operations on 2 and 1,25 meter bands going through the command post. If you can make it or know someone who can please contact n0taz@NewarkAmateurRadio.com.
Please pass this information to any radio clubs, local ham radio messageboards, etc.
Many thanks to those who have already distributed the information about the Bicycle Tour of Newark, New Jersey, to your respective clubs and friends. We still need an additional 22 operators. For those who may not have had an opportunity to spread the word, the information is below and I hope that you will distribute it and encourage members of your clubs to participate.
The Newark Amateur Radio Society needs amateur radio operators for the Bicycle Tour of Newark, New Jersey, on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2010, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. (Rain Date: Saturday, September 25, 2010). There will be a 5-mile course and a 25-mile course.
We need an additional 33 radio operators for this event. Please sign up by Friday, August 20, 2010, (Or ASAP) by e-mailing me at
n0taz@NewarkAmateurRadio.com. This allows us to properly plan assignments. Operators will be assigned to mile posts, checkpoints, bikes, mobiles, ambulances, lead and trail cars, as shadows to event coordinators, etc.
Please participate. This is a large event and, therefore, great practice if you're helping with the upcoming NY City Marathon. We will send out information to those who sign up and there will be a meeting immediately before the event start. This is a great opportunity even if you have never worked communications for an event before.
The staging area for the event is downtown Newark. For those who drive, there will be a designated parking area. For those who take NJ Transit trains, the staging area is only an 8-minute walk from Newark Penn Station. Talk-in repeater information will be provided.
Please pass this e-mail on to other Amateur Radio operators and organizations, and announce it over any local nets that you participate in so that any who wish to participate may do so. We would like to sign up operators as soon as possible. If anyone is interested, please contact me, Leon Grauer, at n0taz@NewarkAmateurRadio.com.
Thank you.
