A revised Amateur Radio question pool that reflects the April 15, 2000 restructuring rules could be out by February 1. Chariman Ray Adams, W4CPA, of the National Conference of Volunteer Examiner Coordinators' Question Pool Committee says the QPC is in the "band aid" mode right now and will try to get "something usable into public domain for all three of the new written pools by February 1 or very shortly thereafter." Adams says that a Technician class syllabus already has been drafted and approved. The various QPC members have been keeping in touch by telephone and e-mail since the FCC announced the restructuring rules December 30. "We will go back over the newly configured pools, refining them and updating in a methodical manner with the order to be decided by the NCVEC when next in session," Adams said this week. He said the revised question pools will follow the established format. After April 15, 2000, the FCC will only issue Technician, General and Amateur Extra class licenses. Novice and Advanced licensees will retain current operating privileges and may renew indefinetly. Applicants desiring HF privileges will only have to pass a 5 WPM Morse code test. Current Amateur Radio study materials remain valid at least until the new rules become effective in April. The new licensing regime has four examination elements: Element 1, the 5 WPM Morse code test; Element 2, a 35-question Technician test; Element 3, a 35-question General test, and Element 4, a 50-question Amateur Extra test.

I went outside to see if we had a full moon. I wish these gentleman had something to use up there energy in a more constructive way. Both guys have a point but their method of dealing with it sends the hobby down the drain. Nasty never did create anything worth while.

Paul, Thank you for your clarifications and your apology.
I guess you not so bad after all. Most of what you have said in your clarification is correct, but a few little things, but gee, what is hate mail and what is an attempt to communicate is in the eye of the beholder. As to Spam... yes you better take the 5th ;-).
As me assuming ( not saying you had) you have that picture of the person we both have great reason to hate on your wall, well I went a little overboard there. My attitude that I have shared with many extra and other class hams, against you... remains unchanged also. You have done a lot more harm to yourself then me and we should keep it at that. We should agree to disagree and so there is nothing to be gained to say more about that. I know your wife was French with a name like VirXXXt she can only be French :-). I have NOT spelled her name all the way after all, she is NOT involved in this little dispute and so it would not be fair to bring her or her name into this besides a casual mentioning. Nothing against the French here, I lived for about one year just outside of Paris and had a great time.
Have a nice day, drive careful in this WX, driving to Colorado it's treacherous in snow and ICE . ( I know I used to live there). Sorry I could not answer earlier, ( not that I exactly know when you posted this) I was at a Hamfest in Lockport NY
yesterday morning and then visited my sister in law in Arvada NY. I came home late after an interesting day and did not feel like checking the computer.

P.S. I am sorry to say, I never received your spellchecker as I have set up the filters in my mail program to delete your messages unread after they became boring. So I just use MS-Word that should do it.****

amateur radio is about communicating with a lot of different people. this action will give a lot more people the opportunity to communicate all over the world. an extra who gets on the radio doing code at 5wpm and is polite will be regarded much better than the extra doing 20wpm and is rude. best regards and be at peace. things change.

Ok, for the record, since I have had a few personal e-mails asking me to clarify a few things- and since the website managers of this page seem to think this is fun stuff- as they once removed it over personal attacks only to put it back again- here are some answers to inquiring minds that want to know:

1. Paul, did you ever boot leg N2NEP's call on HF? Answer: No- I find the call limited in use. 2. Paul, did you really spam people about N2NEP? Answer: I can't answer that question under the 5th admendment (not too many people- just a few gazillion) 3. Paul, did you really get the AOL name of N2NEP2? Answer: Yes, after my idol who has under-achieved in his 25 years of claiming to be a ham- but I was kidding about the chat rooms- 4. Paul, Do you think what you are doing here to discredit N2NEP is appropriate? Answer: Well, he has done a good job of that already- but no, I'm sort of wrong about the way I went about it- but he said I had a picture of a distained German leader on my wall...said I saluted it every morning- That was crossing a line- He made it personal...sent me a lot of hate mail, even claimed I enjoyed my MFJ gear, and then exagerated my responses to him- so I thought I'd give him something to complain about- in retrospect- I should have handled it differently and just sent him the spell checker- 5. Paul, Do you see your self as a crusader for Extra Class ticket holders? Answer: Har! No, most of them now think I'm nuts- But I do see myself as a disgruntled ham who will soon have to share his title with 5 wpm so called "extra class" hams.... who obviuosly are used to being disgruntled too- 6. Paul, You seemed upset over what you call the lack of ARRL influence on the FCC...what gives? Answer: Well, the fact that the FCC has determined 5WPM is ok to become a "Extra Class" license holder, the fact the PRB-1 is worthless in the name of Ham radio, and the fact that QST is a propaganda machine for MFJ- other than that- I'm a card carrying member- 7. Paul, you stated your cat is getting ready to apply for his ham license- is this true? Answer: NO! I don't own a cat and I don't remember making this statement- must be someone boot-legging my call on E-Ham again- most of these entries are bogus made on my behalf- 8. Paul, you stated some comments that could be considered bias against hams outside the United States, can you expand on this? Answer: Please- ok......Well, I don't care for Japanese fishing fleet SSB traffic inside the 80 meter CW window- but thats about it- and oh yeah, the south american CB'ers inside 10 meters- phewy on that- as for the rest of that loaded question- I'll need to consult with my foriegn affairs consultant- my wife...she is a french national- what does that tell you? I've seen the posted comments about this issue- they are false- and exagerated....my statements pertained to one ham, N2NEP- My "love It, or Leave It" attitude towards him remains unchanged- based on a ton of personal e-mail he sent goating me into saying something dumb......I could have stated the response better- I apologize if it was taken wrong- 9. Paul, What do you see as the future of Ham Radio in the United States- since you seem to act like an expert on the subject. Answer: A mixed bag- I see the CW windows remaining the same- but certain SSB DX windows, like on 80 meters, going to waste- that said- maybe some new traffic will happen on the dead sea between 14.150-175MHz......Then again, I can see a lot of potential problems here from 20 meter nets- Ask any General Class ticket holder about nets on 20 meters- As for the rest of it- all I can say is that I'm glad I learned code when I did- certain measurements and expectations were in place to insure that this mode was mastered in the honor of those who walked before us- now that it's all but gone as a requirement for advancement, I'd say in 10 years that SSB will be the one mode allowed anywhere in the spectrum and bandwidth for CW will be the limited mode in allocations- 10. Paul, this is the last question......why do you think people become ham radio operators? Answer: It is the magic of the signal coming out of the static and the rush of making a QSO- enhanced by the secrets of the hobby, like CW...........perhaps someday, when this hobby is nothing more than a reference to an ancient hobby- people will know of a time when becoming a ham mean't something special- Knowing the history of ham radio, I'd go back to 1932 and stay there- My only hope for the future of ham radio is that the remaining commercial interests don't buy out the rest of the hobby like the ham radio manufactuer's lobby did in 1999....I guess I was just born too late for the times- but I have to deal with it as do others- hoo....humm.

Geee Paul,
Don't you dare have any connection with hams outside the US. You are quite a rasist aren't you. My My.... and there I thought you had a change of mind and that have come to your senses.I took you apology for real my, my was I wrong.

I guess it was too much to expect. I should have known it! Btw, I never made a secret out of who or what I am Paul, after all why should I. Just because I am born there doesn't make me any different then you. This country is after all nothing but a mixture of international immigrants . Do you laugh at your own roots? That would really be bad now.
But hey, my family is probably longer in this country then yours ist's just, hey you know you can't chose when and where you born and sometimes at least when I encounter rasist like you I wished the people would have leard from the past.
I am just glad I judged you right the first time I know then that someone that used the language you use on this reflector not only had to be an elitist he also had to be a rasist. So hey you have proven that I was right and altho you say you don't have that picture on the wall and whined to enugh people about it and even tryed to spam me ( what a pittiful atempt that was, wasn't it ) you still act the racist and elitist that had him put his mark on this world. It is rasism and elitism who killed millions in Europe during the war including a large part of my family.
Paul, your behavior on this reflector and in spaming hundreds of hams has shown what a simple minded individual you are. I said before and I say it again I PITTY YOU.

If you don't like the new license regulations and the way the hobby is going why don't you just let go and look for a other hobby? How about counting grass seeds in the praire ? That would keep your mind busy and occupied for the rest of your live.

As for the extra wannabee?

Hey I have news for you. I passed my written exams all the way to extra. It is now just a mater of waiting and I get my license in the mail after April 15th.
And guess what, eat your little heard out it will look the same as yours! Yes the date will be different it will be a little newer but even that is temporary as you will have to renew your's and then YOU will have the newer date.Do I care what you call me? No it doesn't mater in the big picture. You my friend and others like you are just a few lone sandcorns in the Sahara dessert

It is so amusing Paul that one person like you that claims all those acomplishments is so short sighted.
As I told you in e-mail I do not consider WAS, WAZ,DXCC any more as a commodity. They are old and where usefull at a time where the hams where only a few here and there and not in every corner of this planet. Now, they are and with that I leave those acomplishments to the people who call CQ10-10 and other wannabees like you. Paul lets face facts here, with all your bluster you never will be a real DXer nor a big gun. Your nothing but a appliance operater who managed to string up a few wires just because he had the room to do so. The real spirit and knowledge of ham radio eludes you.
Just go back to the other dreads on this list and re read your mesages and maybe you will understand what I mean. I don't have much hope tho.

Paul, just because you memorized some technical questions and passed the 20wpm code doesn't mean you know a thing or makes you a better person then others.
Just because you went out and bought a rig and communicated with a few people in a few countries doesn't mean a thing.
Look at you. You pride yourself that you gave back your VE badge. Is that the spirit of ham radio? NO. The spirit of ham radio would have been better served to keep the batch and become a mentor of those new hams, teach them, elmer them so that they in return behave the way we all want hams to be ... courtious and plessant. You blame the FCC rulings and regulations for the demise on the bands and all those new hams that get everything in a cracker box. NO Paul! It's people like you who get theyre license and think now that they have XXX (fill in the blank ) license class theyre oblications to the next generation is over with. NO it is NOT over with. Listen to the bands now Paul. Listen to those extras, advanced, and generals on HF. Listen to the intentional interference, the foul language and rude behavior. Those are all people that have passed 13 and 20wpm. Did that made them better hams? Better operators? No it did not. Being a ham is a mindset NOT memorizing questions and passing a dubious 20wpm code test. If you insist on a code test why not give a practical test for SSB, AM, ATV, SSTV, Packet, .......and so on? And then don't forget to have a test in good will and manners after all once a ham gets on the air he IS representing the country whos prefix he is using.
Unless you want chaos on every band. You Paul and yes I take this to be personally YOU Paul have nobody but yourself to blame.
But maybe I am asking too much of you. Maybe I should step back and look at the big picture here.
Maybe just maybe your actions are because you know all of this but are not able or willing to help others. That could be after all besides morse code and stringing up wires did you do anything else with the knowlege you memorized in the short time before each test? Did you tryed to assimilate the knowlege to learn more than what box in the multiple choice test to put the mark in?
Did you actively tought courses? Elmer others? Yes? No? Hmmm. As I told you before Paul, you have a long way to go.
Take it easy on yourself Paul, stress kills and getting all railed up over a hobby is not good for your health.
I really enjoy writing to you because gee maybe I have something of a missionary in me.... Nah, I just use my idle time at work for this it's much more fun then selling a car.
Have a nice day and don't take it to hard, not everyone will be a real ham, or is born to be a big gun or big DXer. You are new to this hobby and have a lot of time to learn.Nothing is for free and knowledge needs to be aquired. Go on Paul chase your elusive DX. I have found it to be boring. Dosn't mater what you think , I think it is boring.
I do look forward to run PSK31 on the lower bands especially 80 and 160m.
You can keep your CW and for the time being your small reservation on the lower band edge. It is only temporary. History repeats itself and those reservations will disapear. I say that to mentally prepare you ahead of time so you don't get all bend out of shape again when it happens.
Have a nice day Paul

_John_

gosh N2NEP- Mr. John, I must have a bipolor personality- I rescind my apologies you wrote to you- I just read that you are a foriegn ham- my my..............a tech plus "exta want to be, but I can't figure it out after 25 years" and a German flag holder- well, that explains your perspective...as a German citizen, how can you honestly explain telling people you take exception to that they have pictures of Hilter on the wall- John, you truely continue to lose every time you open your flap- if you don't like America- go home- it's easy- just return to Germany...maybe they will take you in South America somewhere................I doubt if anyone in Europe wants you back- but you can always use your DL call down south- but face it- you will never be a real american or will you ever be a real extra class ham - you're just imitation cheese-

N2NEP wrote me, in between the babble, I think he said he was real sorry for telling me I had a picture of Hitler on the wall...I think he also stated what a loser he was....., and he admitted he will never be a real ham......even though he has "extra class" envy and now wants to relocate to Wyoming so he can have better photo's on the internet then me- huh??? He also claimed to call everyone he knew on the MileHiDXA rooster since he lived in Colorado and got a laugh at of no one ever hearing my signal lah de lah lah......and oh yeah, he has a few EME contacts and doesn't care about how many countries real DX'ers work but was very detailed in his number of those he has worked EME????? I know types like him can't wait to get their extra class license by memorizing the up coming questions pools- maybe his apology is accepted- ....maybe he relaized that personalizing this on the internet was a booboo- But I don't apologize to him, or any Tech Plus "extra class" want-a-be...... And there is a distinction here.......:if you are a tech plus, and you are happy with that- more power to you- You worked hard, and you deserve the admiration that goes with the ticket- That said, maybe they should just give the existing Tech Plus HF privledges to no code techs??? .....so they can be equal with you without any effort??? right??? But if you want to call us who have earned the title Elitest....etc...blah blah blah.......because its easier than putting in the time to get your code speed up- you still lose out- and bah hooey to you! I am a 35 yr. old Tech-plus, and my wife, bless her, studied and passed the 5 wpm. I'm proud of our acheivements. We represent the dwindleing numbers of new HAM operators. We plan to advance to General class by April. I may go on to "Extra", but I've decided to keep my call, KF4YMQ. I don't want the "Glory"! I just want to have as much fun with Amateur Radio as possible. I hope I don't ruin it for all of you, because you certanly will not ruin it for me!

N2NEP a Tech Plus...that explains it- Mr. Tech Plus!!! read his comments- it say's it all- Dear o'le John putting his hard up frustration on to those who have a title he has only dreamed of but is about to find in a cracker jack box- But you know what- "JOHN", despite the FCC giving any lid with a website, and perhaps a pulse, an extra ticket- you'll never be one- period- oh sure, you might have a extra class piece of paper from the FCC- but deep down, you can't do it- period! Mr. Tech Plus- it's not about outdated modes- people who have N2NEP's frame of mind just don't get what the code really does for those who are willing to learn it- He reminds me of a draft dodger- One who wants to wrap themselves in the benefits of the flag.....and tell those of us who actually did something what a bunch of this and that we are- ...what do you think John????....Do you think all of us who learned code did it for grins?? All of us who have achieved a higher form of ham license have done so at a cost- but the rewards of our tithing have been huge- I'll compare my log with your's anyday Mr. Tech Plus- Let's compare band countries and modes....let see how many WAS's you have? how many DXCC's? How many WAZ's there Big John? What's your country count on 12, 15, 17, 20, 30, 40 80 and 160 meters at Tech boy?? You are a DX'er are you not?? You seem to have a lot of envy for them- (most internet geeks do) Meanwhile- the true essence of ham radio- CW, (those are the di's and dah's you hear on your radio shack transciever John) has been sold out- period- it's all about $$$ now- and guys like John can now stand up on their future ham license made from a deck of cards are do what ever- it's disgusting- why don't we call you Dr. John..after all, it's just a title, right? Why don't you go do some meditation about the fact that you'll never be a real extra class ham- never- Mr. Tech Plus- Jane Fonda Fan!

Come on be reasonable fellows,I recently attended a seminar given by Mr.Hollingsworth himself at the Richmond,Va.hamfest.Even he thought that 5 wpm of code was low for getting anything above a tech_plus liscense.Anyone who wants a ham liscense bad enuff can eventually get 20 wpm of code down, I did am i am not the quickest person in the world to pick up something new. But I wanted a amateur liscense above techplus so I put in the time to get it.Yes maybe morse code is a thing of the past so too should things be that are given away because someone don't want to put in the time to learn it.Why can't folks just leave things alone.I don't call it progression, I call it a step back as with our school system that has seemed to dropped their standard of learning also. Thanks for letting me comment, And may God help us all. 73's.

Your comments say it all Paul. Too bad....
You may be human with just a little effort. Go and do your outdated mode.. you will be in good companie with AM. Hmmm isn't that what is used on CB? Anyway, elitist like you are a dying breed and that is the only good thing in this world.
You probably have pictures of that guy with the funny short beard over his lips in your livingroom and greet him each morning with a raised arm.... at least that is the behavior that you are displaying. As I said before and I say again I feel so much petty for you and your narrow mind. This is a useless dicussion because I do not believe that your mind is even flexible enugh to see your errors. After all it only reads dids and dahs. So go and play our ancient game and have fun just don't try to play with modern equipment it will be past your IQ.

Thats it for this thema.... EOF

1. What Does "Extra Class" Mean Now In The 21st Century?

A. An After Hours School Course On The "Dumbing of American Hobbies"

B. A New Business Class on Delta Airlines

C. A Worthless Piece of Federal Paper

D. An Illustration of the Total Lack of Class and Influence the ARRL Has on the FCC

Well, two of the answers are really goofy- one is sort of right, and one is the answer!!!
