Yaesu is hinting that they will be coming out with new digital amateur radios in 2012.

This new PDF phamplet discussing amateur digital radios shows the new Vertex Standard APCO P-25 commercial radios, as well as new amateur radios based on C4FM FDMA.

This appears that Yaesu will be offering amateur gear based on the MotoTrobo digital standard in 2012. The new vertex radios look identical to their Mototrola counterparts.

I guess this makes sense now that Yaesu is owned by Motorola.

What PDF? That link simply takes you to Yaesu's website...nothing more.

Very interesting pamphlet. Wish it had a better photo of the C4FM FDMA handheld transceiver...although it looks similar to the VX-7/8 series.

It will be interesting to see how the recent split of Yaesu from Motorola will affect their digital plans (perhaps that's why the digital information disappeared from Yaesu's web site). See the link below for information about the spin-off.

Reading that news about Yaesu, it sounds like Motorola is splitting off the vertex standard commercial radios and taking MORE control of the amateur/air/mariene radio and even calling that new division "Yaesu USA". This could mean that the yaesu gear we buy will be even more tied to Motorola here in the USA.

It also sounds like Vertex might be restricted to mostly asia, in maybe an attempt to keep them out of Motorola's commercial business.

All in all, it reads like Motorola wants to get rid of the redundant Vertex commercial vertex business and keep the non-commercial parts of Yaesu.

Actually, I figured it out. Ehams news article submission cut off the end of the URL.

Just use the one I posted above.

Thank you for posting this. This is the most balanced treatment of digital vs conventional FM I have seen. The salesmen would have you beleive in the superiority of digital in marginal signal situations. This is simply not true. Sure digital sounds better until it hits the knee. But once that BER gets high enough, nothing goes through. At that same signal strength, the great signal processor that sits between our ears is more dicerning in picking intelligence from out of the noise.
Add to that the poor noise rejection of the IMBE and and AMBE encoders you finally figure out why IAFF, IAFC, NFA and several other alphabet soup organizations have deemed P25 unsuitable for fire ground operations.

"Yaesu USA" will actually revert back to "Yaesu-Musen" within 4 years.
YM has been their name for almost 50 years...

I still remember my Yaesu-Musen FRG-7 with the "Barlow-Wadley oscillator " :)
