Subject: RAC to ask Industry Canada to drop
12 wpm Morse requirement.
The Board of Directors of RAC has voted
unanimously in favour of a motion to approach Industry Canada with a proposal
to drop the requirement for a 12 words per minute Morse code test in
Canada. Following the lead of the recent FCC decision in the US, as well as in some European countries, RAC proposes that Canadian amateurs who have
passed a 5 wpm Morse code test, as well as the necessary written examination,
be allowed full access to the HF bands. A formal proposal will be submitted to Industry Canada in the near future.

I've been licensed since Aug. 1978, I like
and enjoy CW still at the present, cause my rig is capable of going in that mode,hi. I was a member of RAC for a year
and was never ask if I like the speed requirement to get to advanced license be
redused speed.
Well, my opinion is I'm also waiting for the Ministry of Transportation to drop the
posted speed limit on all roads and highways so that there will be less accidents,hi,hi,hi,hi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in full aggreement with dropping the 12 wpm. Morse code has nothing to do with the good safe courtious, lawfull use of amateur radio, except historically. Requiring it for licencing is like a young person going in today for a driver's test but has to recite the starting proceedure for a Model A, just in case he ever needs one in an emergency.

My point is not to diminish the 5 wpm test. I have always thought it was a shame to restrict those hams to 160/80. They should have been given all band access with CW mode. But I also think there should be some incentive for Advanced theory and/or a higher code speed.

I am in full agreement in dropping the code requirements to 5 wpm and opening up all the bands to this achievement plus the advanced priviledge.
Are the senior operators affraid that they may have to share the frequencies?
They complain of the volgar language... yet Listening on 80 meters, Its the senior operators creating their demise.
Thanks for recivieng my thoughts.
Thank you for recieving my comments

Some more of the same stale rhetoric from the I did so should everyone else crowd. The same people who would like to take Amatuer Radio with them upon being a silent key.The sky is falling,it is going to turn into C.B., we have heard that lame argument so many times before. Please get over the end of the second world war, time marches on and things change. It is so easy to prejudge what might or might not happen.Contrary to popular belief there will not be a rush to amatuer radio so for God's sake relax, take a pill and enjoy life instead of crying and belly-aching.

Actually, that's more like 10-band CB radio including the WARC bands and 60 meters...

I wouldn't worry too much about 30M. All that we're allowed there is CW and other narrow band (ie Digital) modes. Should we start calling it the Extra Reservation? ;-D)
