The Hurricane Watch Net will resume operation
as Sandy impacts the East Coast. We will
handle reports for the National Hurricane
Center and we will also handle backup Amateur
Radio communications from emergency operating
centers and public safety locations. We
anticipate a high volume of report so we will
be operating on at least two bands
concurrently.
The Hurricane Watch Net will begin operation
with a test and checkin period Sunday
evening, October 28, on 20, 40, and 80. That
will be open to all but will allow temporary
installations and EOC’s to confirm their
stations are working properly. We will then
launch the net in full operation Monday
morning for the duration of the storm’s
impact on the East Coast.
Sunday 10/28/2012
1700 EDT (2100Z) – 2100 EDT (0100Z) Check
in and test net 14.325, 7.268 3.950
Monday 10/29/2012 until storm passage
0800 EDT (1200Z) 14.325 7.268 Backup:
3.950 as propagation dictates
We will check into the Waterways Net during
morning hours and copy their reports. HWN
sincerely appreciates the cooperation of the
68 group and other nets for allowing us these
frequencies!
HWN encourages all amateurs ~in the area
affected by the storm~ to listen and report
your conditions. We do not need relayed
reports from the media, airports, or other
sources as the National Hurricane Center
already has access to that information. We
rely on measured conditions, and please tell
us whether your barometer has been calibrated
when sending us your data. A typical report:
Callsign, name, City, State , measured
sustained wind, measured highest wind gust,
wind direction, measured barometer, perhaps
rainfall or rate of rain if above normal, and
any flooding or damages you can report.
Remember your own safety and that of your
family comes first!
Thank you for allowing us clear frequencies!
Many agencies are listening as Amateur Radio
provides an important public service.

Most important thing a ham can do is be prepared and then JUST LISTEN until needed.
