Sam Rayburn Memorial Special Event:

On January 4, 2013 at 1400Z until January 5, 2013 at 2300Z, the Fannin County Amateur Radio Club of Bonham, TX will be running a special event station to commerate the longest serving Speaker of the House of Representatives. Sam Rayburn was born in Bonham, TX in the late 1890's. He went on to elected to the House of Representatives for his district and held that office until just before his death in 1966. Mr. Sam, as he is referred to here in birthplace, then served as Speaker of the House during the terms of FDR, Truman, Ike, JFK and LBJ. He welded more power and enfluence in the House than any other modern day Texan that has served his state.

We will be operating from the Sam Rayburn Memorial Library in Bonham, TX. Our operating frequencies will be 14.280, 7.185 and 3.942. The operation will not be a 24 hour event. We will operate from 1400 to 2200 each day on the 4th and 5th.

Thanks for the SE station and the post. Just one correction--Sam Rayburn died in 1961
