CQ Launches Online Photo Gallery:

(Hicksville, New York) -- CQ magazine today announced the launch of the online CQ Photo Gallery to supplement photos published in the magazine.

"We shoot photos at many events, and receive many photos from readers, that we don't have space to put in the magazine," said CQ Editor Rich Moseson, W2VU. "But we still want to share them with our readers. The new CQ Photo Gallery allows us to do that."

The photo gallery resides on the web site and is organized into albums called "sets." Initial sets include CQ cover images; the "CQ Garage," featuring ham radio license plates from all over; news photos from the FCC's field hearing on communications lessons from Superstorm Sandy, and reader-submitted photos. Moseson recommended that readers check into the gallery site frequently, as new photos will be added regularly.

The CQ Photo Gallery may be accessed at

CQ is the world's leading independent amateur radio magazine, serving the amateur radio community worldwide since 1945. It is published in three languages (English, Spanish and Portuguese) and in both print and digital editions.

Generous, thoughtful, and inspiring idea

Nothing helps to stir up enthusiasm like looking at some good ham photos. Sometimes they give you ideas on ways to improve things yourself, or show you activities that you might want to try, but the though never crossed your mind.

It's a good marketing tool and a good source of fun and inspiration, and it is very nice of them to think of doing it.

I think that this is a good idea, however, I think that the print version of the magazine might benefit from making this a regular monthly feature that covers three or four pages. The photos that have been posted so far on the site are interesting, much more so than the covers of old timers at their stations and pages and pages of printer numbers from a typical CQ contest. I would love so much to see the magazine deviate from the same formula that they have been following for three decades. Unfortunately, I don't think that this will happen and eventually, the end may come for the printed version if they do not change up the format!
