To H#!! with bread and milk, Beer and Pizza is much better.

This could result in some great 6 meter propagation.

A strong solar flare up would likely shut down electricity and communications for a long time. Civilization would wind up back in the circa 1800's. People in the inner cities or large metroplexes would go insane and violent. There would be a lot of chaos and anarchy resulting. If you have a farm you need to be able to grow and raise your own food. But you will need to protect it from the roving gangs of people though.

But for us ham people we need to disconnect our equipment from the antennas and power grid before it gets damaged in the power surges. Turn off everything and hunker down until it is over. a gas generator is useful at least until you run out of gas to run it. The gasoline station gas pumps use electricity too. Gasoline can't be stored for a long time as it degrades over time. Solar power is good, but you can't hook it up until after the solar flare has passed.

Considering that most urban crime occurs within a few blocks of the criminals' homes, I don't worry too much about this.
I suspect that if so pressed, inner cities will experience looting, just like during Hurricane Katrina. When it gets worse, the cities will be overrun by wolfpacks of zombie cannibals.

<you folks know I'm joking about cannibal zombies, right?>

Solar event or meteor, that would be over relatively quickly, if the extremely unlikely event should occur. There are more impactful problems facing us.
Have you considered volunteering to help combat literacy, help with shelter, or even a crisis hotline support?
Don't let big catastrophic events overshadow the multitude of smaller issues which trouble our world.

Habitat for Humanity is one of my favorite local, very efficient charities, there are many.
