Ten-Tec Homecoming Hamfest:

From the desk of Stan Brock, WD0BGS, sales@tentec.com

Ten-Tec, Inc. are pleased to announce their 3rd Annual Ten-Tec Hamfest, to be held at their plant in Sevierville, Tennessee on Friday and Saturday, September 27th and 28th, 2002. Displays and live on-air demonstrations of Ten-Tec equipment-- including the new 565 Orion and 516 Argonaut V-- will be made. Other activities include technical forums, VE exam sessions, guided tours of the plant, tailgating and barbecue (Saturday only), swap meet, equipment sales and trade-ins, and free refreshments (Friday only).

This year, the forum schedule includes well-known antenna expert L. B. Cebik, W4RNL; ARRL Sales and Marketing Manager and avid contester Dennis Motschenbacher, K7BV; and QEX Editor and DSP guru Doug Smith, KF6DX. Forums get under way at 10:00 AM Saturday.

Ten-Tec is located at 1185 Dolly Parton Parkway in Sevierville, about 30 miles east of Knoxville. Visit www.tentec.com for travel and lodging information, or call (865) 453-7172. Hamfest hours: 5:00 to 9:00 PM Friday, September 27th; 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Saturday, September 28th. The Ten-Tec Hamfest is an ARRL-sanctioned event.

We're also going to have two live web cams running throughout the hamfest, one inside the lobby main showroom and a second one overlooking the front lawn where the circus tents and HF stations will be in operation. We're expecting about 1,500 people this weekend and it ought to make for some good looking shots with the cameras.

The Hamfest cams are now on and operable. They'll be running from now through the weekend though we may end up changing their location in the building at some point.

Darn I wish I could go. I have been to Ten-Tec on numerous times when I pass through the area and it's a blast to go there.

I bet this would be a helluva blast when something like this is going on. When I went it was just another ordinary day but fun anyhow.

A couple of us Western New York hams will be there Friday morning, bright and early ('cause we're rolling in Thursday night!). Watch for AA2IZ and N2YZS and be sure to say "Hello". We may not look it, but we are friendly Ten Tec users! We are looking forward to this event! 73s Vern N2YZS

KG4NXW, W4BLL and myself went together last year. We all had a blast. The Friday night CW contest was fun to watch,.... as they quickly got above my speed! It was nice to meet Carl, N4PY, and talk about his control software. I even saw a few hams I had meet at the Shelby, NC hamfest a few weeks before. The factory tour was also nice. My son, KG4NXW upgraded to General so you know it was a good weekend for him!!

The fleamarket on Saturday is small but we found a lot of "good stuff" Lots to see in the area and well worth the trip. This year my XYL, KD4GRM will be going and I expect as good or better time this year.

Don't forget, Ten Tec has a retail store open and the room next to it where they have equipment on the air for you to try out. There was also equipment in the tent outside that you could operate too.

Even if you don't need or collect knives, the Smokey Mountain Knife Works is a good place to stop. They have everything under the sun that has or had a sharp edge on it. Well worth the visit if you have never been.

Lets support our MADE IN USA folks and get a great rig too. Hope to work you on the air soon with my new Jupiter!

This will be my third time to attend the Ten-Tec Homecoming. For any of you who have never attended, I can strongly recommend that this will be well worth your time and effort. Aside from seeing the Ten-Tec manufacturing facility, the best part is meeting the people that make the Ten-Tec legendary customer service a reality.

Hope to see you there,

73,

Bill
