7O1YGF Operation Likely Won't Count

If you wondered what happened to the German group active as 7O1YGF, here is
their story:

After 10 days of operation, they were "kindly asked by the
authorities to terminate our radio transmission".

The reason being that no agreement on the final status of this unique activity could be reached.
In other words, they did not get the license upon arrival as promised!

They made about 35,000 QSOs on 40-6 meters on CW, SSB and RTTY.

It may all be for nothing as DXCC credit will not be allowed without proper documentation.

Team participant, DK9KX notes the 7O1YGF license is still in process and they
are hopeful of a written confirmation in due time.

For now, you can QSL if you like, and hope it all works out. CW QSOs via DJ3XD, SSB and RTTY via DK9KX.

Results of past operations have been very leery in that "promise of license on arrival". That's the DX game. WFWL!

Can someone please explain why all the hoopla for this DXpedition when these guys didn't even have their license yet? I admire their grit in getting there, and working like crazy to work us all- amazing effort!! No disrespect- but a lot of us put in long hours to work them and in doing so, we broke the law if they were not licensed- gee wiz whilickers man- can someone maybe, let's say, get the "LICENSE" before firing up from this sand dune next time???

You did not break the law.
They may have, but you had no way of knowing that they were not licensed.
Why the anonymous comment ?

Why all the hoopla you say? Work First, Worry Later, that's why. It's better to have worked and lost than to have never worked at all. Do you have any idea how long I've waited for 7O? Years ago I decided not to work a questionable DX operation and lived to regret it when they were later found to be legit. Wouldn't you know it was the last operation from that country ever seen? I now need only 4 countries all-time and still don't have a card from that one. Oh well, live and learn, and I have. If it looks like DX and quacks like DX I work that DX Duck. If the DX Game weren't so hard it wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun.

To all of you who have never worked a Slim or Romeo on one of his "operations", more power to you! These guys at least THOUGHT they had a license till the end.

The jury is still out on this one. I still have my fingers crossed in hope it all comes out OK and they get approved. I spent 30 hours calling them for one QSO. And I will send for the card, whether it counts or not.
