FCC Forms Wireless Broadband Access Task Force, Seeks Public Comment:
Even as the FCC pursues its broadband over power line (BPL) agenda, it's
continuing to explore wireless broadband access. FCC Chairman Michael K.
Powell this week announced the formation of a Wireless Broadband Access
Task Force, which has released a public notice seeking comment on issues
related to the FCC's wireless broadband policies. Powell says the task
force's mission is to identify potential changes in wireless broadband
policies that will further facilitate the deployment of wireless broadband
services.
"We are strongly committed to facilitating broadband investment and
deployment, particularly through technological choices," Powell said.
"This Commission has put a high priority on making sure Americans have
access to broadband services through multiple facilities-based platforms.
I believe that we can do even more."
The FCC says the new task force "will reach out to all relevant
stakeholders and develop recommendations that will further the deployment
of wireless Internet service providers (WISPs)." Powell says the
"overarching goal" of this newest initiative is to examine what the
Commission can do to extend broadband services to underserved areas and to
increase competition in areas already having broadband access.

On Thursday, May 13, NICK LEGGETT N3NL and I, acting as individuals, filed a Joint Motion to extend the comment period in this Docket. (FCC Docket 04-163)
The FCC set the Written Comments deadline as THURSDAY, JUNE 3 -- which is 30 days after the Notice was posted on the FCC's Home Page. The "normal" procedure is to allow 30 days after publication of the Notice in THE FEDERAL REGISTER.
To the best of our knowledge, the Notice has still not appeared in THE FEDERAL REGISTER. Thus, parties who rely for notification solely on THE FEDERAL REGISTER -- which is still, legally, the official "voice of the Federal Government" -- are going to have little if any of the customary 30-day period for providing comments.
This is another indicator of the "breakneck pace" with which the FCC is currently processing anything that has to do with broadband/wireless services. We have yet to see any real EXPLANATION from the Commission of why they consider such speedy process to be necessary -- or even legal.
ANYWAY ...
If any of you care to join Nick and I in filing an objection, AND in asking the FCC to state a "rationale for the rush", I invite you to file your own Motions in FCC DOCKET 04-163.
The Schellhardt/Leggett Motion is already posted in that Docket File, on the FCC's ECFS, if you want to take a look.
73,
Don Schellhardt

Hello, NEIZ!!
I see you're still following the old adage:
"If you can't say anything good about someone, don't say anything at all."

Trying to shakedown hams to $upport your FM pirates & commercial tower pals is disingenuous & getting old!
Get a callsign already, it has been a year of excuses & endless drivel without a purpose.
You are not our savior since you have no callsign. You don't represent us on any solid footing.
The truth is hard for you to accept but not impossible!

1. I have been posting on www.eham.net for around 4 months, not a year.

Is this not a good idea? Now, this is a question. For myself - AS I understand this technogly, it's up in the cell phone freq ranges - and won't bother the ham bands. Wouldn't it be nice to have wireless broadbandd available? NOT BPL!! But truelly wireless. I would like this, but not at the cost of giving up ham bands, unless it were sharing up in the Ghz range. Looks like there would plenty of spare room up there, but I am open to changing my mind.

Yes it would be nice and it is the right way to go. There is another place being considered and that is all of the unused TV channel assignments.
Here in my area, we have channels 3, 8, 9, 11, and 13 and a whole host of UHF TV channels that are unused. In other areas, a different set will be free. In the rural areas, there will be even more of this type of spectrum available.
There is plenty of spectrum available. The big problem is that BPL provides the MAGIC third wire today and not in the future. This is clear from Commission statements.

I sent my comment to the FCC. I told them there would be nothing illegal about a group of hams setting up a non for profit coorperation.
This coperation would provide broadband internet legally on IEEE 802B.
Guess I will be on a GVT sh-- list

I hope it is the real deal and not another taxpayer paper tiger.
Many of these so called diversity signal boosters/bilateral repeaters out far past the legal limit for WI-FI use.
Sure, I use WI-FI public "bubbles" on my laptop in cafe's, airports, and Universities. I will often look
at the "HUB" The box with the diversity antenna's on em.
Many have NO FCC sticker for 802.11 A/B/G. Some even claim 10W out.
