Recently in Washingtonville, Orange County, NY where I reside, it has come to
my attention that the local village zoning board is attempting to enact a
"Wireless Telecommunications Facilities Law" which restricts tower/antenna support structure installations.
I was fortunate enough to retain a letter from the board stating that my
installation shall be immune since it was installed prior. However, future
installations are in jeopardy for myself and other amateurs in the village.
I have already presented them with a copy of PRB-1 in it's entirety, a
summation of what PRB-1 says, sample ordinances from other towns and villages
and newspaper clippings of Amateur Radio serving in emergencies and disastrous
times.
On Monday July 10, 2000 at 7:30pm there will be a public hearing on this at
the Village Hall on RT. 94 in Washingtonville. I think it would be in all Amateurs interest, especially those that live in Washingtonville, to
attend the public hearing and make certain we can have a PRB-1 clause added to
the ordinances of the village. If we just lay down and let them enact the
law, Amateur Radio antenna support structures will not be allowed in
Washingtonville without very expensive engineering reports and environmental
impact studies furnished and financed by the owner.
In the past 3 weeks I have sent e-mail to Patacki, Schumer & Larkin,
(Governor and Senators from NY -ed.) none of which have responded.
Thanks for your help,
Tony Cioffi - N2KI
(Washingtonville is near Stewart Airport, about a 1 hour drive from New York
City in Southern upstate New York. -ed.)
