Title: FCC "Ham Radio" license testing slated this month
Event Type: VE Sessions
Description: CARMEL, Ind. (Jan 7, 2013) - Exams will be given to anyone interested in obtaining an Federal Communications Commission (FCC) amateur radio license on Saturday, Jan. 26 in the training room of Noblesville Fire Station No. 6, 16800 Hazel Dell Road, at 8:30 a.m. Accredited American Radio Relay League volunteer examiners will offer the multiple-choice exams for the entry-level Technician license, the intermediate General class license and the advanced level, Amateur Extra license. There no longer is a requirement to test for proficiency in Morse code.

There is a $15 administrative fee. Examinees must have either the exact amount in cash (change will not be available) or a check made out to ARRL-VEC. Two forms of identification will be required, at least one with a photo. Currently licensed amateur radio operators must bring their original license and one photo copy which will be forwarded with the upgrade application and completed exam.

There are only 35 multiple-choice questions each for the Technician and General class exams and 50 for the Extra class. Currently licensed radio amateurs are invited to upgrade to a higher class during this testing session.

Learn more about Amateur Radio on the ARRL site, or by calling the League's toll-free number 1-800-32-NEW HAM. Study materials are available from ARRL for all levels of license.
