Someone once said to me that there
was no place on Earth where you
could find an 18 hold golf course,
a 275 acre stocked lake and a lake
front house with three large lots
with NO read that NOT ANY antenna
restrictions. I think there may
only be one place and this is it.
Newly remodeled house with great
view of the lake, new furnace, new
septic and large ham room equipped
with grounding and power including
four 220-volt circuits each ran
back to the service! Walk out
basement with another room
overlooking the lake, a built in
brick bar with sink and Jennaire
cook unit. Double garage right off
the hallway to the ham room.
Laundry room is large and located
upstairs. Shop set up in the
basement. This home has it all. It
is situated on three individual
lots that could be combined. I have
kept them separate in case some day
I would decide to sell them off as
an investment. Now for the good
stuff. NO permits are required to
erect antennas. Neither the
building association at the lake OR
the county requires any permits at
all. There is a HDX 555with the
tilt over mechanism that has a
TH11DX on top. There is also a Hy
Tower Vertical that works with a
charm. A 40 foot Heights fold-over
holds a 13B2 antenna. A short tower
holds the weather station. In the
yard ready to be erected is a 70
foot electric winch Hy Gain HG70HD
tower. There is also another HDX
555 with tilt over and a 32-foot
Rohn HBX tower with all the
antennas, rotors and new m2
fiberglass boom for satellite. The
satellite antennas are the Hy Gain
pair with a Yaesu 5500 rotor. In
the garage, ready to go on the two
towers in the yard and still in the
box is a 2MPX32 and a 40m4lldd four
element 40 meter beam! There is a
Ham IV rotor for the HDX 555 where
I was going to put the 2MPX32 and
another antenna on site the 6 meter
6M7. There is also an M2 Orion 2800
rotor and control box for the 40-
meter beam which I planned to put
on the HG 70 HD. The TH 11 DX is
turned with a Yaesu G 1000 DXA that
has the idiom board in for computer
connection. The ham room has its
own 150-amp distribution panel in
the garage and most of the outlets
are ran back to the box with
separate circuit breakers. The room
has heat and air conditioning from
the main house but also has its own
air-condition with supplemental
heat. I have never used the heat
but have used the air conditioner
when I power everything up in the
summer time. The ham room has three
large windows overlooking the lake.
It is a beautiful view. Both the
main and the ham room have
internet-based thermostats allowing
you to control the heat and air
conditioning from the internet. It
also allows you to monitor the
temperature. The house has Mediacom
cable with high- speed internet. It
also has a central station
monitored security system. There is
a generator in the garage in case
of power failure, which in the
years we have been there has never
been longer than a couple hours but
it is also good for field day! Of
course, it is also great for some
field day operations. The home has
water access with a large dock. The
18 hole golf course (it was a nine
hold and they just added a new set
of 9 holes) is only about a mile
around the lake from this home. In
addition, there is a never used
association owned lot that adds to
the spaciousness and privacy. No
one ever has a problem with the
antennas. In fact, they refer to me
as the "radio guy" within the
association! The house is located
in area code 61415 on Little Swan
Lake close to Avon Illinois. Macomb
is only about 20 miles south,
Galesburg 30 miles north, Bushnell
10 miles south, and Monmouth about
20 miles north west. In each of the
towns, you can find groceries,
hardware store and restaurants.
Davenport, Rock Island and Moline
are about 90 miles north. Chicago
is about 200 miles. St Louis is
also about 200 miles, Peoria and
the ham fest is only 50 miles! For
that matter, Dayton is only 380
miles! Chicago and St. Louis are
both accessible al but about 30 -
40 miles from interstate or four-
lane highway! In addition go to
Galesburg and get on Amtrak and you
can be downtown Chicago or St.
Louis. You can actually make the
trip there and back in one day! The
tickets to Chicago can be purchased
as low as $18 one-way or if you are
an Illinois resident, I am told
they are free! Western Illinois
University is in Macomb, Carl
Sandburg College and Knox College
in Galesburg and a branch in
Bushnell. Monmouth College is in
Monmouth so this could be a great
place for anyone who has someone
about to enter college and needing
a place to stay. All of this is
available for a great price! Why do
I want to sell? Well, I thought I
was going to retire. However, while
I left my main job as Chancellor of
a college, I now find myself
working harder than ever with the
books I have published and the
seminars and other activities
associated with those things. That
requires me to be on the road or in
the office. I see no relief in the
immediate future. The ham equipment
in the house along with the
furnishing is negotiable. The
equipment in the house includes, a
FTdx9000d, VL 1000 amp, FT 1000d,
FL 7000 amp, TS 480HX hooked up for
remote internet operations, IC 970H
for vhf, FT 847 for satellite, SS
9000 Heathkit (yes I did type right
look it up) feeding an SB 220 amp,
Collins KWM2 completely refurbished
feeding a 30 L1, A Viking
Thunderbolt and Ranger I in 9 out
of 10 condition, a NC 300C receiver
for that group, a Mohawk, Marauder,
and Warrior combination in working
condition, an Ft 857 in the closet,
an SB 102 with speaker power supply
and an extra power supply in all in
working and great cosmetic
condition, a SB 104 with speaker
power supply and clock console, a
DX 60 Heathkit in great condition
and other misc stuff. Any and all
of the equipment is available. I
plan to begin selling some of the
equipment on e ham and ebay so move
quickly if you are interested.
There are also three computers with
HRD on Mysql database for common
logging. The 1000d, 9000d, 480. 847
and 970 have rig interface. One of
the machines is dedicated to
logging the KWM2 and the Viking.
There is an antenna matrix
switching system that allows you to
control any antenna on any of the
rigs. This is great when operating
remote over the internet you can
actually connect and disconnect the
antennas from the rig remotely.
This is a dream ham house and just
typing this I have almost talked
myself out of selling it! I have
worked for over five years finding
this place and putting all the
pieces together. Finding a home
like this with no antenna
restrictions, lots of land that is
Lake Front, a dock for a boat, a
stocked lake and an 18 hole golf
course is probably impossible
unless you take this one! The time
to act is now before I change my
mind or someone else gets it! E-
mail me if you are really
interested and I will send you to a
site with pictures.
