HF rig - cheap or donation in SE Michigan - Sold!

I'm testing for my General very soon and I am looking for a cheap but functional HF rig in the Detroit area. I'm a teacher at a private school, so my budget is pretty small to start. Added to that, I got ripped off to the tune of $300 last month by a fake ham in the UK for a non-existent HF rig (that was most of my budget right there). So, now looking for something even older, cheaper and preferably where we can meet face to face!

Non-local isn't out of the question, but nothing international for sure - I've learned my lesson. And I would probably use up what money I have paying for shipping anyway.

Since I'll also be using this rig as an HF station at school (always trying to get students interested in ham radio - not easy these days when second graders have cell phones), donations would also be happily accepted and are fully tax deductible. I already fly high altitude balloons w/APRS with my students but would like to set up an HF station. I will get you a donor letter from our Development Office for tax purposes and you will be acknowledged for an "in kind" gift in our annual report. If that's the way we go, then I will set the whole thing up at school and the rig will stay there (I live a mile away and will likely set up my station there anyway).

Finally, I could even get by with a rig lacking a decent receiver (if such problems ever happen to HF rigs) since I bought a SOFT66LC2 a few months ago and it is working great. (The SDR receiver is one thing that seems to impress the kids - and me, too!)

Robert
