This RF Generator came from a silent key at our radio club. I went on to totally refurbish it, and then after I did it, I got a hold of a BK E-200D. So I am selling the Heathkit IG-42. This is their high end version.
$100 plus exact cost Fedex Ground shipping. I am trying to sell it here first, before I put it on ebay. My ebay ID is vsall, so you can check my feedback.
All 1/2W carbon resistors were replaced with 1% metal film, including the shielded attenuator resistors. There were a couple power resistors that were replaced with 5% metal oxide.
All caps (except ceramic discs), were replaced, and there were a ton of them. The ceramic discs measured right on the money, so I left them in.
I even replaced the micas with tighter 5% version.
All pots and switches were sprayed with Deoxit.
Center dial knob is new, as the old one was broken.
There is a multi-turn vernier knob that was installed by the original owner. I works well on some freqs, not so well on others. Overall, I left it in because it appears to work (noted in schematic).
I modded the power supply to eliminate the 1/2 wave selenium, and installed a full wave bridge (see pics). I kept the B+ the same as I used a couple drop resistors. There is no longer a hum.
I installed a BNC for the RF out. There was a 2nd BNC installed in the upper left for a freq-counter connection, but my counter showed it to be unstable, where the RF out was rock steady. So I un-did the mod, but left the BNC in there. It is fairly easy to re-install if you want.
I have the assembly instructions, but they are a copy at half size of original. The schematics include notes on the vernier knob and freq counter output.
I calibrated it by the instructions, which was a simple 2-step cal. The freq dial is close, but I recommend a freq counter to set the dial for alignments.
Included is a 51 ohm resistor for the output cable. I am not including an output cable, so you will have to buy one.
Note that the front face had what appears to have a splash from a polyurethane or such, and I was unable to remove it.
