ATTENTION AM ENTHUSIASTS
Here is a project that time does not permit me to finish….. Complicated by the addition of a new Alpha 8410, which works perfectly in AM service, this project lies waiting for completion.
First, there’s a Johnson Viking 500 RF deck in good condition and operating.
Second, there’s a homebrew power supply/modulator, built to follow the original JV500 schematic, but with solid state rectifiers and step starts to protect from surges. The iron is from a Gates 500/1000 AM transmitter, and the modulation is from a pair of (new) 811a”s. The power supply modulator is in a two foot high rackmount cabinet on heavy duty rollers, and weighs about 250 lbs. The interconnect cabling is homebrew, but nicely done with test points and remote keying available for testing. B+ is 2200 VDC and screen voltage is 450VDC.
Lastly, there is an amplifier deck with a pair of 4-250’s (4-400a’s can be used) with Vacuum variable tuning and gear driven loading if you’re more inclined to drive a linear from a low level exciter; such as a JV Ranger. This RF deck is complete and well documented. It has the filament transformer for the pair of tubes, and needs only B+, screen voltage and an external blower to cool the tubes.
I am negotiable on these items, but I’m trying to thin the pack……
