Yaesu FT-900AT - Tech Special
A Tech Special ! Bust out your soldering iron and put on your HAM
A Clean, Yaesu FT-900AT from a non-smoker home.
This FT-900 has the internal Auto-Tuner !
I would keep this radio to fix and use, but I'm in a rush to brew up
funds for a radio that I've been drooling over for some time. The guy
has been holding it for me - its coming up on 2 weeks. I have to brew
up the cash soon. So, this nice radio has to go.
The issue. It was either a power supply failure or a power surge
through the power supply. The input power filtering caps were "popped"
and a wee little board trace vaporized into a resistor. This is the
only area where a big voltage spike did its damage.
I have fixed those capacitors and the trace.
The board now has proper voltage on the jacks to the other boards.
A lower volt - overvoltage made its way to the control board there are
a few voltage regulators that would have been in direct line via some
wee little 20ga wires. I have tested a couple and they do show that
they are dead.
Simple repairs - the radio is built using 97% thru-hole components.
These voltage regulators are thru-hole - easy soldering!
Also, on the LPF board, there is an inductor that popped like a fuse
and a ceramic disk capacitor (.047uf - radio shack part of all things
) that has signs of overvoltage.
Fix the voltage regulators and I'm pretty positive that the radio will
come to life. Fix the LPF board and you should be on easy street to
getting it fully operational again.
I do not see any other signs of overvoltage on any of the other
boards. It appears that the voltage regulators stopped the overvoltage
Included with the FT-900 is 1200dpi print of the Yaesu FT-900
Technical Supplement ( Service manual ).
There is no mic or power cord included.
The radio is fully put back together so you can take it apart so you
know then, how to re-assemble.
I'm asking $235 SHIPPED
For reference, an FT-900 tech special sold on e-bay for $280 PLUS
I'm not a dealer, I'm just cleaning out the shack to brew up cash for
a new radio....

I do not accept Paypal ! - I had two bad and very expensive
experiences with them.
I prefer US Postal Money Orders or money orders / cashiers checks from
a major nationwide bank are ok mailed to my QRZ address.
A note about the picture - normally I take pictures of the actual
item, unfortunately the batteries went dead in the camera, and my
daughter used up all the batteries without telling me >:-| Its a
picture of one I picked off the web so you have an idea what the radio
looks like. The actual radio is in very good cosmetic condition.
