This is the Hallicrafters SX-73 receiver. It contains 19 tubes and
has a coverage of 540 Khz to 54 Mhz on 6 bands. Like the
Hammarlund SP-600 it too has a military designation of R-274. It
employs a single conversion superheterodyne circuit between 540
Khz to 7 Mhz, and a double conversion superheterodyne circuit from
7 Mhz and up. The intermediate frequencies for the double
conversion is 455 Khz and 6 Mhz,

communications receiver was
manufactured from 1952 to 1954 for
the military-commercial market.
This baby weighs 58 pounds and is
20x11x18.5 inches, and fits into a
19 inch rack. audio output of 600/50
ohms and antenna input of 50-200
ohms with a BFO injection control
and carrier meter adjustment on
rear. The receiver has 6 fixed
crystal positions with crystal
vernier tuning. Its ranges are:
.54-1.35, 1.35-3.45, 3.45-7, 7-
14.4, 14.4-29.7 and 29.7-54 MHz. It
has receive/standby, BFO, AVC and
ANL switches. The receiver is a
double conversion super heterodyne
general coverage communications
receiver with 17 tubes plus voltage
regulator, ballast tube and
rectifier, 2 IF and 2 RF stages and
is single conversion below 7 MHz.
The coils are mounted on a turret
and mechanically move into active
circuit to reduce cross modulation.
