Swan 500c

***ITEM HAS BEEN SOLD***

For Sale – Swan 500C with 117-XC
power supply and D-104
microphone. Transceiver has been
refurbished. All electrolytic
capacitors replaced with discrete
components under the chassis,
black paper capacitors replaced
with poly film. Out of tolerance
resistors replaced with metal
film and carbon film resistors as
required. Added small CPU
cooling fan external to PA cage,
powered by internal 12-volt
supply. Transceiver includes VX-
2 VOX unit.
Power supply has been rebuilt to
OEM specifications with new
filter capacitors. Has three-
prong plug on power cord Cinch-
Jones plug.
Cosmetics are 7/10. Prior owner
aggressively used a Dymo labeler
and engraving pen to label front
panel reminders on how to tune
the radio, and engraved his name,
callsign, and address all over
the radio and power supply. Upon
research, the owner of the call
went SK in 1997 – and the rig was
liquidated in an estate sale.
Front panel has been restored to
close to factory condition, and
visible cabinet marring has been
repaired. Engraving marks exist
on the underside of the radio and
power supply but are not terribly
obvious.
Radio has been tested on all
bands with full (300 watts+) on
80,40, and 20, with somewhat less
on 15 and 10 as is typical. This
particular radio is a later
model, closer to the 500CX in
that it uses the 6JH8 modulator
tube (not the 7360). It has been
aligned to factory specs. All
tubes have been tested.
The radio receives very positive
audio reports with the D-104
microphone. It also has a very
stable VFO, once a brief warm up
period has passed.
Asking $450. Would much prefer
local pickup, but will ship at
buyer’s expense and risk. Would
be happy to demonstrate the radio
to potential buyer, but due to
the nature of 50-year-old
electrics, it is sold as-is. A
good manual is available on the
BAMA website, listed as “500C-
Late.”
