Turn-on voltage of +/-330VDC is the gas tube threshold for all these lines, ringing voltage of +/-180V peak is permitted. Assessment of the unit ---------------------- The unit is very well built. Solid die cast aluminum enclosure with Feed through grommets. The gas discharge tubes(GDT) are outside the unit, right behind the terminal strip chamber that hosts the screws to attach the lines. Right after the GDTs, the feed through grommets connect the lines to a circuit board that appears to have a very large MOV and a current limiting resistor. The other end of the line is pretty much soldered to a feed through grommet and is exposed at the rear of the units exterior. I was told that this was a special unit made for the military. The box has date code of 1995. This is a large box and you can see the dimensions in the images i have hosted on google docs ( scan of the data sheet). Points to Note --------------- 1) The unit is NOT waterproof and it will need to be mounted indoors or inside a waterproof enclosure. 2) There is no mounting bracket, so a grounding strap with a lug will need to be provided to fasten it to one of the bolts to secure this unit to a good RF ground. Application ------------ The 18 protected lines in a single package was very attractive. A 3 Element Steppir (12 lines) along with a Yaesu rotor (6 lines) protection could be accomplished with a single unit. The turn on voltages are very high (330V), but like i have shown in one of the units that i had modified for personal use, one can solder the right Metal Oxide Varistors(MOV) for their desired turn-on voltage along with Ceramic bypass capacitors to discharge static. This mod will make the specs tight with a lot of paths to discharge the surge as the strike voltage rises. Again the MOV's can be tailored to ones needs. UNIT SOLD BRAND NEW WITHOUT ANY MODS. Popular 6 band band pass filter- Retailed for over $350....asking $125, buyer pays all shipping and transaction fees. The filter has an intermittent relay (one of 6) causing it to stick from time to time. Not sure which one as it is an intermittant issue and troubleshooting points to this being the most likely cause- They have stopped making these filters, although you typically see them in most DX'pedition photos, and this unit would be an excellent source of parts or may just work fb if you could find/replace the troubled relay.
