I'm looking for a great VHF/UHF base/mobile transceiver with good power, not junk.  I'm leaning toward TM-V71 for crossband, remote etc, and simplicity of using the radio.  Any guesses on whether KW will replace it this year?

I'll get the programming cable and load my standard file. Which accessories should I jump on?

Other name brand radios I should consider? There is a mod to open up XMIT for Mars, etc - downside to having that done?  I will open wideband receive - looks like a few button presses - anything tricky? Who hates this radio and why?  Best source for used?

Tnx 73, Charlie KØTAN

The V71a is a great radio, as is the D710.  Either of them would serve you well.

Search the classifieds on here, QRZ, or SwapQTH - they do appear now and then.

I would go with V71 new if you want Kenwood. It is over 200 dollars cheaper than D710 and most likely cheaper than a used D710 with no warranty.

Agreed.  I'd only go up to the D710 if you (OP) planned to monitor APRS a lot as it is a great APRS radio.  Otherwise the V71 will suit you fine.

Lots of reasons to get it now. A few to wait for June.  Sigh Thanks to all.

Someone has a package deal listed on the QRZ swapmeet right now if you're interested and don't mind a pre-owned radio.
