I'm new to the APRS mode and computers hate me.
I've got an android phone running APRS droid and a mobilinkd blue tooth TNC. The set up works for the most part. I can receive stations and see them on the map. My station shows up on APRS.fi. I keep trying to send messages to people. When I hit the send button the TX light illuminates on my radio. 90% of the time the messages eventually say "aborted" I guess after too many tries. I'm basically just sending messages to random mobile and home stations that I see on the map. Do I have something set wrong or do most people just not set up their APRS stations to receive messages?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You don't say what type of radio you are using or your power output. If you are using an HT, it may be that you are not getting the packets to a digipeater or other station.

Since I show up on APRS.fi I thought I could eliminate the possibility of not hitting the digi. I'm using an HT with a rubber duck but I can see the tower the digi is on, it's only 3 miles away.

KD4UPL, I am just grasping APRS understanding.  How can you tell which station is responding to your transmission?

Any station that responds with a message would also be identified by their call sign in the text. I think that's the answer to your question.
I can see myself on the APRS.fi internet site so I know my transmissions are making it to an igate somewhere. I'm pretty sure I know where it is.
