I've been using my Android phone running APRS Droid connected to a Mobilinkd TNC for APRS. This seems to work pretty well except that apparently the maps the phone uses are being downloaded from the data connection. This means if I'm operating with no phone service (which is kind of the point) then I don't have maps.
Can I download a map of the entire US into the phone or is that too large a file?
Or, if I got a cheap tablet to use instead of my phone is there a mapping program I could install in the tablet?

Thanks,
