I am interested in finding a contesting group who has the land and means to raise a M2 KT36XA 10/15/20 meter beam. I have the beam an am willing to use it as my way into a worthy club. I would like to find a club somewhere in southeastern Va. I split my time between Richmond, Va and Newport News when I'm not traveling. I don't have the real estate for such a large beam at home so I'd like to find a contest station where I could put it and use the station for contesting or other activities at times.

Cheers,

Kevin

Have you tried contacting the PVRC Potomac Valley Radio Club at...

 http://www.pvrc.org/

They don't have a "Contesting Station" as such but are widely known as one of the largest
"Contesting" group/Radio Club in USA. I'm sure someone would be able to direct you in your
search "somewhere in southeastern Va."

You can join most contesting clubs for free, or the nominal annual membership. Typically this is not like  a time sharing arrangement, you participate  individually or with other members in multis.  The club provides meetings, information, support, etc.

You sound a bit like me. I notice you have not had more than one reply. I have a KLM antenna I cannot seem to sell. It is an original KLM KT-34A yagi still in the box never assembled. Totally mint condition. Looking at the price of the new M2 version and the price of an up-date kit for my KT-34A, mine must be worth $500. The up-date kit is $300. So for $800 you get the current version M2 is selling for over $1,300. No one will even come take a look at it when I say my price is firm. And you cannot get an invitation when you offer to donate the KT-34 "Big Daddy" boomer. At first I thought my problem was hams want real good stuff either for free or $1.50 and I pay shipping. But you cannot even give yours away. Oh well - such is reality. Maybe I am missing something in all of this.

If anyone wishes to connect with the contest community, utilize the contest reflector at

http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/cq-contest

Once you are connected there, I'm sure you will find some group interested in your offerings.

eham is OK for generalized information, but there are much better venues to get connected for the more specified areas of this hobby, whether it is contesting, dxing, building/technical, etc....

Sorry for the late post.  Just catching up on reading.

The issue is 2 fold.  The KT34X is not a good contest antenna.  Its a DXers antenna.  So, honestly, its not going to WOW the crowd in contesting.  Secondly, there is already a lot more station hardware out there then there are good operators.  So the better plan is to offer your time (especially if you can and are willing to climb) to a Multi Group and join the fun.  You will be very welcomed.  PVRC is THE group in your area.  Reach out to people like KD4D or K7SV among others.

Glad to have you interested.
