I have a Yaesu FT-901DM and the 2 meter Yaesu FTV-901R transverter.  I know nothing about what I need and don't need. I think I need a tone board CTCSS? I think FM for reapters and what about 2 meter SSB?
As you can see it has been before tone boards since I worked 2 meters.
Please any and all help I can get would very much be appreciated.
Thank You,

CTCSS is needed for repeaters on FM
Simplex FM and SSB, doesn't need any sub tones or what have you.

The FT-901DM, no, but if you use it with the transverter and want to use FM on repeaters, like G8YMW mentions, then probably, but that would be only for 10m. I wouldn't bother... You probably will only use the transverter for 2m SSB anyway. If you want to talk on local 2m repeaters, get a cheap Baofeng UV-5R+ for $30, it will cost you as much as a tone board and it is its own radio.
