The HAMster VHF/UHF Weak Signal Group
promotes TALK RADIO 144.180

Who are the HAMster?

The HAMsters Group is an UNCLUB dedicated to the promotion of VHF/UHF/SHF {50MHz to 1296MHz} communications and weak signal activity using USB Phone, CW, and Digital modes. While many of us log and chase Grids, City’s, and States, our primary focus is on communications and conversations on these bands and the constant encouragement through local and regional clubs and activities to promote Weak Signal Activity and DXing on these bands. To learn more about the HAMsters please go to: www.144200.net

Myself N5XO and Jerry May KB2WDM formed the HAMsters about 8 years ago, and we are now over 150 members officially, with close to 70 more who participate in our events and activities. We are now in the process of looking for sponsors in other States and Countries to help create local Chapters of the HAMsters, to help continue to promote and encourage Weak Signal Activity on 50 MHz to 1296 MHz. With the eventual goal of National and International contest, DX conversation events, etc.

What is Talk Radio 144.180

It is the HAMsters belief that on air activity generates more on air activity, conversations generate conversations. Hence several months ago, the HAMster Group set into motion our program called TALK RADIO 144.180. As we worked to grow the activity on SSB in Central Texas, there have been various HAMs who pushed to have a bulk of our activity on the 144.200 National calling frequency with the strong argument that if the activity is held were the majority of HAMS monitored, then when the bands open, those Hams would hear activity and join in and more contacts could be made. Then you also have those with a very strong argument that supports NO conversation on the calling frequency. So armed with strong arguments to the pro and con for carrying on conversations on 144.200 and the HAMsters having only a strong desire to PROMOTE THE HOBBY, not create conflict or turmoil, we set aside 144.180 as our regional conversation frequency. With HAMs through out Central and South Texas understanding, that if they monitor 144.180 USB, the odds of running into a group having conversations were strong.

The HAMsters in March of 2017, moved 100% of our daily operations to 144.180 USB……. Holding our weekly Sunday Night 2 meter Net on 144.180 USB at 7:pm on Sundays, then we expanded to our morning round robin from about 6:30 am to 8:30 am with morning commuters, early bird risers, etc joining in for some nice morning conversations. Most of the HAMsters monitor not only 144.200 through out the day, but specially 144.180, and the activity has been increasing dramatically over the past few months.

With this increased activity, we had the idea to expand this concept Nationally, promoting 144.180 USB as the National Conversation Frequency, where HAMs from around the Nation could carry on conversations and daily SSB Activity, with the hope that as the band opens up, opportunities for contacts in other Cities, States, etc are created.

If you are interested in VHF/UHF Weak Signal Activity, we ask the you help promote this new concept and join us in holding your conversations on 144.180 Upper Side Band.
