Oops, correction, latest update puts SFI=182!!!!

Maybe we could make more use of it if we weren't having radio blackouts due to the solar weather.

Im not sure if this is a joke or not, but I will take anything at this point.....I don't think the SFI has been near 182 since at least 2011!.....pray that this continues.....I haven't worked a new one all year....and the summer was completely barron.....since the Hawaii QSO party, I've been back on....here's hoping as we get closer to the equinox, things get really good!!!!......

Solar Activity

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity was at high levels due to Region 2673 (S08W16,
Dkc/beta-gamma-delta) producing multiple M-class flares, the largest of
which was a M5 flare observed at 04/2033 UTC. This region showed steady
growth throughout the period, in addition to becoming more complex
magnetically. Region 2674 (N14E06, Fhi/beta) was relatively stable
producing only one C1/sf flare early in the period. The remaining
regions were stable and inactive.

Initial available SOHO/LASCO coronagraph imagery indicated a likely
asymmetric full halo CME was associated with the M5 flare from Region
2673. In addition, Type-II and Type-IV radio sweeps were observed
around the time of the M5 flare, beginning at 04/2042 UTC, as well as
10cm radio bursts. Additional analysis of the CME will be conducted as
coronagraph imagery becomes available.

.Forecast...
Solar activity is expected to be at moderate to high levels over the
next three days (05-07 Sep) mostly due to the flare potential and recent
history of Region 2673. Radio blackouts reaching the R1-R2
(Minor-Moderate) levels are expected for the next three days (05-07
Sep), with a chance for R3 (Strong) radio blackouts.

Well, that is good news. I was only on the air a little bit today, but the solar activity kinda swamped things. I heard some Eu on 17/15, but all were pretty weak here  Angry

NOTE TO THE SUN: Please keep your SFI/SSN High and solar activity low for WAE, SSB! We need it for our multi-single at W4NC. Thanks!  Grin

Mason,

I actually don't mind BAD CONDX during a contest. Bad CONDX allow me to sleep (in a 20m single band category) and still stay competitive with the younger ones who don't need to sleep.  Grin Grin Grin

Ill tell you guys what...it was really nice to work Mongolia (for the first time in a long time), the Isle of Man, the Vatican and South Shetland Islands (again for the first time in a long time) during what was otherwise an abysmal holiday weekend (weather & health wise)....whether or not this solar revelation had a hand in it is significant, I don't know (more than likely yes b/c my signal sucks), but like I mentioned before, I hope we are finally on another upward trend as the equinox approaches.....for however long or short the upward trend lasts (let's hope long)..... Roll Eyes Shocked Grin....

Worked some LOUD Europeans on 15m today! The first time in months! I just had a few sporadic minutes in the afternoon to get on the air:

IK4GRO 5/9+10 15m
IZ6BXV 5/5 15m
WB6D 5/6 15m
DL5RBW 5/9 15m
VE7MTW 5/5 15m
IZ0GYR 5/6 15m
IS0DCR 5/3 17m

All around 20:00z with 100w and a dipole up 25 feet. Not rare DX, but some BOOMING signals and some DX on 15m for once  Smiley

When I got IK4GRO confirmed back in 2003, it was an All Time New One for me. Smiley
Now, how do I remember some of these things?

Haha that's great! Lauro can work DX on an otherwise dead band. I have worked him many times in the past year.

Out of curiosity, I looked and IN3BJS was the first Italian I worked wayyyy back in August, 2016 just a day or two after I got on HF  Grin Way back in the day Grin

IK4GRO was my 5th Italian QSO.
