I currently won a Kenwood ts 590S if I upgrade to the 590SG anniversary would I be getting anything different or not?

The 590SG has significant improvements over the original model including new firmware, receive antenna output, CW decoder and so on. Google for more info.

The anniversary model is a cosmetic variation.

The improvements are listed on the Kenwood brochure for the newer model.

If you google the new model number and "vs" the old model number you'll find some info.

You can also read the eham review of each model.

The FTDX5000 is something like 15 year old technology, right?  Or does it still have specs and capabilities that rival newer rigs?  Just wondering...I notice that FTDX5000 rarely come up on the used market...which must say something about customer satisfaction.

the same thing I am wonder I don't think is 15 years old but probably 9 or 10 but yep It will be good to hear if it is a better option to go from a ts590S to the 5000 instead of the 590SG

As previously posted ... the Anniversary Edition is merely a cosmetic variation of the "standard" TS-590SG

For details on the features of the '590SG compared to the original '590S, if you are an ARRL member, go to the QST on line archive and read the review that appeared on page 47 of the July, 2015 edition.
