I like the style of the D-104 mics, (And they're a dime a dozen)  but I'm leery of the freq. response.   What can a person do to upgrade the element?  Is there an aftermarket element available?

Yes you can.  Heil sells the element and so does DX Engineering.  I have a silver eagle which looks nice and sounds great with the Heil element.

Is the W2ENY element ( as seen on eBay-) a worthwhile alternative to the Heil upgrade to the D104?

Having owned a few Heil products in the past, I can't help but think there's a fair amount of markup buried in there. I'm sure the W2ENY element is a better value.

For the price, I think I'll give W2ENY product a shot, and I'll be sure to share my experience with you all!

Thanks again !
