The radio club where I work may have access to an ICOM FR-3000 repeater.  Is it feasible to convert it for amateur use?

They should do the ham band, but you'll need a duplexer.  600k split is impossible with the internal duplexer.  Interfacing with an external controller is a disgusting project you'll hate about half way through.

You will need a GOOD duplexer... about $1500 worth of good.
