All antennas were swept into the ocean sometime between 4 - 5:30 AM this morning. Coax lines are heavily damaged but hopefully salvageable. Will now fabricate verticals made out of bamboo with wire wrapped around them. Have seen some unbelievably long bamboo for sale here. Probably 35 feet plus. Transporting it back to my QTH will be like a Laurel & Hardy or a Three 1 Stooges movie. The damaged coax is another story..............Gotta be resourceful & think like Macgyver.

 Temporarily QRT.

Tom,

I was thinking of you (and the WX) several times today. I'm glad you are OK.

Back on the air but in a limited way on only 15 & 17 meters. No wire available in any shops I can find on the island so I'm using bamboo poles wrapped with tinfoil. In order to bring the antennas to residence I simply chopped off enough bamboo until good SWR was found................Over 1,200 QSOs have gone into the log pretty quickly from this not at all rare place. Hopefully the new bamboo verticals will add 12 dB to the signal.

Very resourceful!  You'll probably find that they work so well, you'll dispense with taking 'real' antennas on your next trip and just pop down to the local shop to buy some chicken-basting Bacofoil....
